“Nilu27: The Budget Supercar That’s Actually Fun”

A fresh new contender has arrived in the supercar space—not from Ferrari, Lamborghini, or McLaren, but from a UK-based startup called Nilu27. This firm is offering something most gearheads only dream of: a lightweight, two-seater sports car that delivers a supercar-like experience without the supercar price. Unlike most track-focused kits that require weekend wrenching, this one arrives as a fully assembled, turnkey car ready to drive.

Turnkey Performance Without Supercar Complexity

At its heart, the Nilu27 is designed for simplicity and driving purity. Rather than pursuing the latest in hybrid or electric technology, the car goes back to basics with a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 2.3-litre inline-four engine borrowed from the Ford Mustang EcoBoost range. It produces 252 bhp, which might not sound monstrous in today’s numbers game, but given the Nilu27’s weight—just 850 kg—performance is brisk and engaging. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, offering plenty of thrills without breaking the bank.

An Engineering Focus on Driving Enjoyment

The Nilu27 rides on a bespoke aluminium chassis and uses a double-wishbone suspension setup to keep the handling tight and responsive. There’s also a six-speed manual gearbox, feeding power to the rear wheels. This setup delivers a mechanical, old-school sports car vibe that’s becoming increasingly rare in today’s automated, tech-laden performance cars. The car also comes with 15-inch wheels, AP Racing brakes, and fully adjustable coilover suspension. It’s aimed at driving enthusiasts who value control, response, and feel over sheer numbers or luxury.

Designed by an Industry Veteran

The car is the vision of Andy Burrows, who has over 30 years of experience in the performance car industry and motorsport. His goal with Nilu27 is to make fun, pure sports cars accessible to more people—not just those who can afford hypercar badges. Rather than selling a bare-bones track car or a DIY kit, Nilu27 delivers a road-legal, complete car that can also handle itself at a circuit.

Pricing and Personalization

Despite its premium engineering, the Nilu27 is priced from £39,000 in the UK—a fraction of the cost of most modern supercars. There’s a full options list available, including aesthetic upgrades and performance tweaks, but even in base form, it offers a complete package. It’s also fully road legal and complies with current emissions standards, making it more than just a weekend toy.

A New Niche for Sports Cars

What sets Nilu27 apart is its commitment to making sports cars exciting and accessible again. With many performance cars growing heavier and more complex, this minimalist machine is a refreshing throwback. It prioritizes fun, agility, and mechanical engagement—something many modern cars seem to forget. And with its blend of affordability, performance, and simplicity, the Nilu27 could very well find a cult following among purists who miss the analogue driving era.
