Proton served as the title sponsor of the 5KM category at the Malaysia Marathon 2026 in Kuala Lumpur on 30 August 2026, using the event to showcase the All-New Proton Saga as the official lead car ahead of 10,000 runners in a race flagged off by Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The upcoming generation of the Saga represents the first vehicle in the manufacturer’s history to be fully designed, engineered, and validated by Malaysian talent on Proton’s proprietary Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), developed in technical collaboration with Geely. Across its production history since 1985, the Saga nameplate has recorded over 2.2 million deliveries in Malaysia.

Under the hood, the All-New Saga is equipped with a newly developed 1.5-litre i-GT engine paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), delivering a rated fuel economy figure of 4.9 litres per 100 km. The vehicle also retains chassis development tuned under Proton’s Ride and Handling specifications.
Cabin appointments include a 16-inch Integrated Dual Screen setup that natively supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto connectivity. On the safety front, the sedan is equipped with six SRS airbags and a suite of nine Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features.

The Malaysia Marathon 2026 event drew more than 25,000 participants from 69 countries competing across the 42KM, 21KM, 10KM, and 5KM race categories, with 100 Proton management members and employees participating in the run.
Following the conclusion of the race, an electronic lucky draw conducted from the verified runner registration database saw participant Muhammad Eusoff Bin Abdul Salim selected to win a unit of the All-New Proton Saga. The vehicle key was presented post-race by Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton.
Commenting on the event partnership, Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa stated that Proton’s participation in the marathon aligned with the brand’s objective of engaging Malaysian and international running communities on the eve of Hari Merdeka, while marking the engineering evolution of the brand’s core domestic model.
