Sime Motors Turns Old Tyres into Clean Energy

Sime Motors has officially launched a groundbreaking zero-waste tyre recycling programme in collaboration with Evergreen Corporate Sdn. Bhd., setting a new benchmark for environmental stewardship within Malaysia’s automotive sector. Effective from 1 July 2025, this initiative spans all Sime Motors dealerships across Peninsular Malaysia, becoming the first structured tyre recycling programme of its kind by a Malaysian automotive retail group.

Commitment to Sustainability Through Innovation

Sime Motors’ Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Jeffrey Gan, emphasised the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable business practices. He noted that the programme is a manifestation of Sime Motors’ pledge to incorporate innovation in environmental responsibility, saying, “With Evergreen Corporate’s advanced capabilities, we’re proud to lead the zero waste* tyre recycling within the industry.”

Closed-Loop Recycling with Advanced Green Technology

The recycling process involves collecting used tyres from Sime Motors’ network of brands, which includes BMW, MINI, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, BYD, Denza, Drivecare, and Auto Selection. These tyres will be processed at Evergreen Corporate’s facility using Advanced Thermal Recovery Green Technology. This closed-loop method enables 100% material recovery with minimal emissions, transforming old tyres into valuable materials like carbon black, fuel oil, and steel.

Evergreen Corporate, which holds an ESG Gold rating from the Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC), is recognised for its leadership in environmentally sound waste management. CEO Wan Afif Azizul called the collaboration a “milestone for the future of green technology in Malaysia,” while co-founder Kwang Meng Kian highlighted the scalability and future-readiness of their recycling solutions.

Supporting National Sustainability and ESG Goals

This initiative aligns closely with the Department of Environment (DOE) standards and bolsters broader national sustainability and ESG objectives. Sime Motors views this effort not only as an operational initiative but as a meaningful contribution to the communities it serves. Customers who service or purchase vehicles from Sime Motors can be assured that their old tyres are being disposed of responsibly and sustainably.

A Cleaner Future Through Customer Participation

The programme encourages public participation in environmental sustainability. Every customer choosing Sime Motors is now contributing to a greener future, helping reduce the environmental impact of end-of-life tyres. It strengthens the company’s brand image as a provider of not just automotive excellence but also as a leader in ecological responsibility.
