Muar, Johor — 17 November 2025: A fatal accident on the North–South Expressway (NSE) in Muar killed a woman and injured her fiancé, raising fresh concerns about highway safety.
The crash occurred at KM 134.8 southbound, near the Pagoh Rest & Relax (R&R) area. A Perodua Myvi collided with the side of a Volvo FL10 lorry. As a result, the car overturned, and the 30-year-old passenger was thrown out, dying at the scene. Meanwhile, her 29-year-old fiancé, who was driving, suffered head and arm injuries. Fortunately, the lorry driver escaped unharmed.
According to Muar police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, authorities are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving causing death. The crash also caused traffic delays of about 5 km while emergency crews cleared the scene.
Officials reminded drivers to keep safe distances from heavy vehicles, rest when tired, and ensure all passengers wear seat belts. They warned that even minor mistakes can have deadly consequences on highways.
This incident adds to a growing number of serious accidents on the Muar stretch of the NSE. Therefore, authorities continue to call for stricter enforcement and increased public awareness.
