Leadership Transition at AMG
Mercedes-AMG is set for a change in leadership as Michael Schiebe, the current head, moves into a new role within the Mercedes-Benz board. Starting December 1, 2025, Schiebe will oversee Production, Quality, and Supply Chain Management. While he departs from AMG after nearly two and a half years, Mercedes has yet to reveal his successor, with the announcement expected at a later date.
Michael Schiebe’s Time at AMG
Schiebe has been part of AMG since 2004 and took charge in March 2023. His leadership period has been marked by controversy, including backlash over the four-cylinder variant of the C63. More recently, the recall of 219 AMG One hypercars — almost 80 percent of production — due to fire risks added pressure to his tenure.
Balancing V8 and Electrification

Despite setbacks, AMG has continued shaping its dual strategy: embracing electrification while maintaining its performance heritage. The brand is preparing new V8 engines designed to comply with stricter emissions rules, while also working on a “very emotional” electric super sedan inspired by the GT XX concept.
Future Engine Strategy
While enthusiasts hope for the return of the V12, Mercedes confirmed the 6.0-liter twin-turbo remains exclusive to the Maybach line. Additionally, the Formula 1-derived hybrid V6 featured in the AMG One will not be repeated, as emissions regulations make it unfeasible.
Challenges for the Next AMG Boss
The upcoming AMG leader will inherit a brand in transition, tasked with strengthening AMG’s reputation while navigating the balance between combustion engines and electric performance. This dual path will be crucial in maintaining AMG’s image in an evolving automotive market.
