The Digital Shift in Tyre Shopping
In Shah Alam’s Seksyen 15, a couple recently arrived at Performance Tyre Malaysia with a pre-purchased Kumho tyre for their Perodua Myvi. They had secured the tyre online, utilized discount vouchers, and scheduled an installation slot in advance. This approach eliminated the typical wait times and price negotiations associated with walk-in purchases.
“The cheaper price is the main thing for me,” said 31-year-old Imran Anuar from Puchong. “Walk-ins are usually a bit more expensive. Online, you get vouchers. I got an RM30 discount voucher myself.” He appreciated the seamless process, noting that once the purchase was made, the workshop contacted him to fix a slot, ensuring everything was confirmed upon arrival.
Another customer from Cyberjaya traveled to the same workshop, attracted by the better price listed on Shopee. “Tyre prices at workshops in my area can go up to RM100 more. So I bought it online and came to Shah Alam instead, just to get the tyre changed,” he shared.
Workshops Adapting to Online Sales

Lucas Liow Poh Hooi, the second-generation owner of Performance Tyre Malaysia, has embraced online sales to attract new customers. “I started selling online to get more exposure and attract new customers,” Liow explained. He is cautious about inventory, ensuring that tyres don’t sit too long to avoid customer concerns about ageing products.
Liow noted that the traditional methods of customers arriving with handwritten price comparisons have been replaced by digital communications. “Now they just message us on WhatsApp or Shopee, and pay online,” he said. This shift has made customer flow more predictable, helping the business manage slower months effectively.
E-Commerce Platforms Enhancing the Experience

Platforms like Shopee have observed a growing trend of Malaysians browsing tyre options online, watching product videos, and reading reviews before making purchases. This digital approach allows customers to compare prices and services across different workshops, ensuring they get the best deals.
Continental Tyre Malaysia has also embraced this digital shift by launching a Mini Program on the TNG eWallet. This initiative allows customers to purchase tyres, apply promo codes, select dealers, and schedule installations at over 120 Continental outlets across Malaysia. The program simplifies tyre shopping by helping users find the right tyre pattern and size, ensuring a seamless experience from purchase to installation.
Conclusion
The move towards online tyre purchases in Malaysia reflects a broader trend of digital convenience and cost-effectiveness. With platforms like Shopee and TNG eWallet offering streamlined processes, discounts, and scheduling options, Malaysians are finding it easier than ever to maintain their vehicles without the traditional hassles.
