ID. Buzz World Record Journey Makes a Pit Stop in Malaysia

In a thrilling celebration of endurance, innovation, and electric mobility, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) and Giti Tire Malaysia (GTM) proudly welcomed world-record driver Rainer Zietlow and his all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz to Malaysia — marking a major milestone in his quest to set a new Guinness World Records™ title for the most countries visited in an electric vehicle.

⚡ A World Record in Motion

The world tour so far has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since setting off, Zietlow has already travelled through 46 countries in just 84 days, covering more than 46,400 kilometres in the futuristic Volkswagen ID. Buzz — a modern reimagining of the beloved VW Bus.

His second visit to Malaysia gave local fans a rare opportunity to meet both the man and the machine in person. Meanwhile, the event at Volkswagen Glenmarie (F.A. Wagen) celebrated his record-breaking journey while spotlighting the innovative technologies driving this new era of electric mobility.

According to Renate Noessler, Managing Director of VPCM, Volkswagen represents both innovation and exploration. “The Volkswagen brand is built on engineering excellence and emotional connection — vehicles that move people, both physically and emotionally,” she said.

She went on to explain that, “The ID. Buzz is a revival of the VW Bus, but reimagined for a new generation. Rainer’s mission truly highlights its performance, reliability, and spirit of exploration that people all around the globe know and love.”

Combining nostalgic charm with modern-day technology, the ID. Buzz stands as a symbol of Volkswagen’s evolution toward sustainable mobility. Fully electric and equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, it demonstrates the brand’s commitment to efficiency and innovation. Through Zietlow’s journey, the ID. Buzz continues to prove that electric power and long-distance travel can go hand in hand.

🛞 Power Meets Precision: GitiSynergy H2 Tires

No long-distance electric journey would be possible without dependable tires — and that’s where Giti Tire takes centre stage. The GitiSynergy H2, chosen as the original equipment fitment for the ID. Buzz, provides exceptional balance between performance, safety, and efficiency.

Since electric vehicles deliver instant torque and carry heavier battery packs, they place unique demands on tires. The GitiSynergy H2 meets these needs with advanced tread compounds, low rolling resistance, and reinforced construction. As a result, it improves driving range, enhances stability, and ensures long-lasting durability.

In addition, its excellent wet-weather grip offers confidence on rain-soaked roads — a crucial factor when travelling through tropical regions like Malaysia.

Shiroo Chia, Deputy GM of International Marketing for Giti Tire Group, emphasized this achievement, saying: “Rainer’s ultra-long-distance journey is powerful, real-world proof of the GitiSynergy H2’s advanced technology and trusted performance. We’re proud that both the automaker and driver rely on Giti to conquer this 80,000-km, 70-country world tour.”

🌏 A Mission for the Planet

For Rainer Zietlow, the world tour is more than a record attempt — it’s a statement of what sustainable mobility can achieve. “I am very happy to have Volkswagen and Giti Tire alongside me for this journey,” he shared. “The performance of the ID. Buzz and Giti tyres has met my expectations. The driving experience and overall capabilities are excellent, and I’m confident that I’ll complete this zero-emissions world record attempt.”

He also expressed his joy at being back in the country, adding, “I’m thoroughly enjoying my second visit to Malaysia — and it definitely won’t be my last.”

🌿 Driving Toward a Greener Tomorrow

Ultimately, the Glenmarie event brought together automotive enthusiasts, partners, and media to witness innovation in motion. Guests experienced firsthand how Volkswagen’s electric revolution and Giti’s tire technology complement one another to create a driving experience that’s cleaner, smarter, and far more exciting.

As Zietlow continues his world-spanning journey, his Malaysian stop serves as a proud reminder that the road to a sustainable future begins with bold ideas, visionary engineering, and an adventurous spirit.
