One-Year-Old Baby Dies, Eight Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash at Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza

KAJANG, Selangor, 27 Sept 2025 — A tragic road accident at the Bukit Kajang toll plaza killed a one-year-old boy and injured eight other people after a four-vehicle collision shook the area.

How the Crash Happened

Around 11:00 a.m., emergency services received a call about a crash at the toll plaza. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) quickly dispatched a team from the Bangi Fire and Rescue Station, and they reached the site in just 11 minutes.

When firefighters arrived, they found chaos. Four vehicles sat heavily damaged. Under a JKR Nissan X-Trail 4WD, rescuers spotted a baby and a man pinned to the ground. They rushed to act. At 11:20 a.m., they pulled out the man alive and sent him straight to hospital. Ten minutes later, they freed the baby, but medical staff confirmed that the infant had already died.

Meanwhile, seven other victims suffered injuries. Paramedics from the Health Ministry had already taken them to hospitals before the firefighters even arrived.

Vehicles Involved

The accident involved four vehicles:

  • a three-tonne lorry loaded with scrap iron,
  • a JKR Nissan X-Trail 4WD,
  • a Honda City, and
  • a Proton X70.

According to witnesses, the lorry came speeding from Semenyih toward Putrajaya. As it entered the toll lanes, it lost control and ploughed into the cars waiting to pay.

Why the Lorry Crashed

Early talk on social media mentioned a tyre blowout. However, police later explained that the lorry driver blamed brake failure. Investigators confirmed that the lorry rammed into vehicles at lanes 8 and 9.

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof added that forensic checks and mechanical inspections are ongoing. Authorities want to confirm whether poor maintenance, brake problems, or driver error caused the collision.

About the Victim

The child who died was only one year old. He travelled with his family when tragedy struck. Sadly, the collision trapped him beneath the JKR vehicle. Despite rapid rescue work, he did not survive.

Some social media users claimed the baby was conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF). However, no official source has confirmed this, and mainstream news outlets have avoided publishing it.

The Injured

Eight other victims sustained injuries of various degrees. Rescue teams moved them to nearby hospitals. Doctors have not reported any life-threatening conditions among them so far.

The Lorry Driver

Police arrested the 42-year-old lorry driver shortly after the crash. Tests showed he had not consumed alcohol or drugs. Still, records revealed that he had both a criminal history and traffic summonses from 2013 and 2016.

He now faces charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death. If convicted, he may serve jail time and face other penalties.

Immediate Response

JBPM, PDRM, and Health Ministry teams worked side by side to handle the crisis. Firefighters cleared trapped victims, police secured the area, and paramedics treated the injured. At the same time, highway staff redirected traffic around the blocked lanes.

Because of the accident, vehicles queued for hours at the toll plaza. Only after emergency teams cleared the wreckage did traffic begin to move again.

What Happens Next

Now, police are piecing together every detail. They will check the lorry’s maintenance records, roadworthiness, and load safety. They also want to understand if the crash could have been prevented.

This accident has reignited public anger about lorry safety on Malaysian highways. Many drivers demand stricter checks for heavy vehicles and harsher action against negligent operators.

Conclusion

The Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza crash has left one family grieving and a community demanding answers. While investigators continue their work, Malaysians are reminded of the risks they face daily on busy roads. Whether caused by faulty brakes or negligence, the outcome remains the same: a young life lost far too soon.
