Valmet Automotive Faces Job Cuts
Valmet Automotive, the contract manufacturer for Mercedes-Benz, has confirmed that its Uusikaupunki plant in Finland will undergo major workforce reductions as a result of declining demand.
Negotiations Cover Entire Workforce
The company has begun change negotiations that will affect all 1,300 employees at the factory. Management estimates the need to cut up to 1,075 person-years through temporary layoffs, job terminations, or modified job roles.
Falling Orders from Mercedes-Benz

A slowdown in the European car market and a sharp drop in Mercedes-Benz orders have significantly reduced the plant’s production workload, prompting the restructuring.

Strategic Diversification Yet to Bear Fruit
Valmet Automotive has recently expanded into other industries such as defense manufacturing, but those efforts have not yet produced large-scale contracts to offset the decline in car orders.
Balancing Staff and Market Realities
The company stresses that its goal is to align its workforce with current production levels while maintaining competitiveness and financial sustainability, aiming to find solutions that consider employee interests alongside market challenges.
