Lorry Seized in Kuala Kedah: Driver Faces Multiple Charges, Foreign Attendant Held Over Fake UNHCR Card

KUALA KEDAH — An integrated enforcement operation (Ops Bersepadu) conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Immigration Department last Tuesday led to the seizure of a lorry after its driver and attendant were caught committing multiple severe offenses.

During the joint operation in Kuala Kedah, authorities stopped a lorry driven by a Malaysian citizen. Upon inspection, enforcement officers discovered that the driver was operating the heavy vehicle without a valid Competent Driving License (CDL).

Further checks by JPJ officers revealed a string of additional traffic violations. The local driver did not possess a Goods Driving License (GDL), which is mandatory for commercial transport. In addition, the lorry’s Motor Vehicle License (LKM), commonly known as road tax, had already expired, along with its mandatory PUSPAKOM inspection certificate. Due to these compounded offenses, the authorities immediately confiscated the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the lorry’s attendant (kelindan), a foreign national, also fell under scrutiny. When asked for identification, the attendant presented a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card. However, upon closer inspection, authorities strongly suspected the document to be a forgery.

The foreign attendant was subsequently detained and handed over to the Kedah State Immigration Department for further investigation regarding the authenticity of his documents and his legal immigration status in the country.
