Sapura Industrial Berhad (SIB) and China-based Zhejiang Zhongze Precision Technology Co. Ltd. (ZZ Tech) have officially opened the SIB ZZT Sdn. Bhd. manufacturing plant in Gurun, Kedah, marking SIB’s diversification from conventional automotive component manufacturing into precision energy storage components for international markets.

The joint initiative originated in March 2025 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIB and ZZ Tech to explore local production of electric vehicle and energy storage battery components, followed by the formal establishment of their joint venture two months later.The operational launch integrates ZZ Tech’s precision tooling and processing technologies with SIB’s established domestic manufacturing footprint.
The plant incorporates automated assembly infrastructure alongside end-to-end digital part tracking to maintain consistency and quality control standards required by international tier-one buyers.Beyond creating more than 200 skilled technical jobs, the facility is designed to foster local supply chain linkages, encourage bilateral technology transfer, and support domestic manufacturing participation under Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
Officiating the opening ceremony, Kedah Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi bin Md Nor noted that the facility broadens the state’s industrial manufacturing ecosystem while serving regional supply chains.Sapura Industrial Berhad Managing Director Datuk Syed Izuan Syed Kamarulbahrin stated that the venture establishes a dedicated growth platform for precision energy component production, building upon SIB’s historical foundation in the automotive sector. ZZ Tech Chairman Wu Shang added that combining Malaysia’s manufacturing base with ZZ Tech’s technical expertise positions the Gurun facility as a viable export base for international energy storage markets.
