JAECOO J5 EV Makes First Public Appearance at Oh My Meow! Expo 2026

OMODA JAECOO Malaysia has officially previewed its first fully electric model, the JAECOO J5 EV, at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026. The public exhibition runs from July 9 to 12 at Level 3 of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre in Mid Valley Megamall.

Head of OMODA JAECOO Malaysia, Chris Tan, described the J5 EV as a major milestone for the brand’s electric portfolio expansion in the country.

A Pet-Friendly Cabin

Previewing the vehicle at a cat-themed exhibition highlights the brand’s unique “pet-friendly” positioning. The interior features TÜV-certified pet-friendly, anti-bacterial, and scratch-resistant upholstery. It also introduces a dedicated “Pet Mode” that keeps the air conditioning running when the vehicle is locked, ensuring pets remain comfortable and safe inside while the owner steps away.

Performance and Range

Swapping out the standard 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, the J5 EV is driven by a front-mounted electric motor that produces 211 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque. This allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 175 km/h.

Power is supplied by a 58.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery sourced from CATL, delivering a WLTP-rated range of up to 402 kilometers on a single charge.

Charging and Practicality

When it’s time to plug in, the J5 EV supports up to 130 kW of DC fast charging, which can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes. It also comes equipped with a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, allowing the car to act as a mobile power source for external devices and appliances.

In terms of storage, the electric model retains the 480-liter rear boot of its petrol sibling but adds a convenient 35-liter front trunk (frunk) under the bonnet.

Tech and Safety Upgrades

The cabin retains a minimalist design but is heavily upgraded with modern technology and comforts, including:

  • A 13.2-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen.
  • An 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster.
  • A massive 1.45-square-meter panoramic glass roof.
  • A 540-degree surround-view camera system for maximum visibility.

For peace of mind on the road, the model is equipped with a Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) encompassing 19 smart safety features to protect both drivers and their furry companions.
