Reclassification of E-Cigarettes
Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, announced that the use of electronic cigarettes, or vapes, will now be categorized as a drug-related issue rather than merely an offence linked to regular tobacco. This firm move comes after authorities found that most e-cigarettes have been mixed with harmful substances that can lead to serious addiction.
Rising Health Concerns
According to Lawrence Wong, the situation could worsen in the future if it is not addressed immediately. As a result, Singapore is taking a tougher stance by tightening its laws and classifying vapes containing dangerous substances as a threat equivalent to drugs.
Stricter Punishments

The government also stressed that harsher prison sentences and heavier penalties will be imposed on individuals or parties distributing vapes with harmful substances. This approach aims to curb the spread of e-cigarette use, which poses risks to both public health and community safety.
A Regional Policy Shift
This decision marks a major shift in Singapore’s policy on e-cigarette control, making it one of the strictest countries in the region in dealing with vaping issues.
