Mercedes-AMG is injecting a dose of traditional driving feel into its next electric performance sedan, the AMG GT XX. In a bold move that defies the silent nature of most EVs, the brand confirms the car will come with simulated gearshifts and artificial engine sounds—features designed to rekindle the emotional thrill associated with AMG’s internal combustion cars.

Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes Group, emphasized that the car’s mission is to stir emotion. According to him, it’s not enough for the car to be fast—it must connect with the driver. AMG believes these sensory enhancements will help bridge the gap between the exhilarating dynamics of a combustion engine and the clinical efficiency of electric propulsion.
Heritage-Inspired Innovation
This emotional engagement doesn’t just stop at simulated gear changes. The AMG GT XX will also replicate the soundscape of a traditional AMG, as already teased in its concept form. These elements aim to ensure that driving the electric AMG feels as visceral and engaging as any of its gasoline-powered predecessors.
Powertrain and Platform
The AMG GT XX rides on the dedicated AMG.EA electric platform and is powered by three high-performance axial flux motors—two at the rear and one at the front. These motors, sourced from the UK-based company Yasa, produce a staggering combined output of 1,340 horsepower in the concept version. Although final figures for the production model may vary, AMG assures that performance expectations will be met, if not exceeded.
