Perodua Bezza Dominates July 2026 Car Sales, Extending Lead Over Proton Saga

In a fiercely contested Malaysian automotive market, the Perodua Bezza has once again proven its dominance in the A-segment sedan category. According to the latest vehicle registration data for July 2026, the Bezza continues to stretch its lead over its closest rival, the Proton Saga.

Beyond the battle of the budget sedans, July 2026 also saw historic milestones for the local industry: the Proton e.MAS 5 electric vehicle officially broke into the overall top 10, and the Perodua Traz finally claimed the monthly SUV sales crown.

July 2026 Registrations: Bezza Nears 10,000 Units, Perodua Sweeps Top 5

For the month of July, Perodua witnessed a massive surge in deliveries. The Bezza recorded nearly 10,000 new registrations, giving it a comfortable lead of over 2,000 units compared to the Proton Saga. In fact, Perodua absolutely dominated the upper echelon of the charts, taking four of the top five spots overall.

Here are the top 10 best-selling models for the month of July 2026:

RankVehicle ModelJuly 2026 Registrations
1Perodua Bezza9,821 units
2Proton Saga7,814 units

7Honda City2,362 units
8Toyota Hilux2,293 units
9Perodua Traz2,244 units
10Toyota Vios2,185 units

A Historic Month: Proton e.MAS 5 and Perodua Traz Make Waves

The most significant talking points from July’s data came from slightly lower down the list, marking major shifts in consumer buying habits:

  • The Rise of EVs:The Proton e.MAS 5 electric hatchback stormed up the charts to secure the sixth position overall with 2,402 units registered. This is the very first time an electric vehicle has ever cracked the overall top 10 list in Malaysia, let alone reaching the top six.It comfortably outsold established combustion engine stalwarts like the Honda City and Toyota Vios.
  • A New SUV King (For Now):The Perodua Traz officially became the best-selling SUV for the month of July with 2,244 registrations. It dethroned the Proton X50, which managed 1,953 units. This marks the first time the newly launched B-segment Traz has led the monthly SUV segment since its debut late last year.

Year-to-Date (YTD) Standings: Bezza Widens the Gap

The July sales surge provided Perodua with a comfortable cushion. At the end of June, the year-to-date (YTD) gap between the Bezza and the Saga was 3,229 units. By the end of July, this gap had widened significantly to 5,236 units.

Here is the full list of the top 10 most registered vehicles in Malaysia as of July 2026 (YTD):

RankVehicle ModelTotal Registrations (YTD)
1Perodua Bezza57,284 units
2Proton Saga52,048 units
3Perodua Axia44,064 units
4Perodua Myvi34,584 units
5Perodua Alza23,737 units
6Proton X5015,599 units
7Proton S7014,718 units
8Honda City14,483 units
9Proton e.MAS 513,067 units
10Perodua Traz12,997 units

Even though the Perodua Traz won the July monthly battle, the Proton X50 remains the undisputed YTD SUV leader for 2026 with 15,599 units. Furthermore, Proton’s new e.MAS 5 EV managed to edge out the Perodua Traz for the ninth overall spot by a razor-thin margin of just 70 units.

Brand Wars: BYD Closes in on Mazda

Looking at overall brand sales, the race for the seventh spot is heating up rapidly between Japanese stalwart Mazda and Chinese EV giant BYD.

As of July 2026, their YTD standings are incredibly close:

  • Mazda (7th Place): 7,030 units
  • BYD (8th Place): 6,901 units

The gap between the two automakers is now a mere 129 units, dropping sharply from a 328-unit gap in the previous month. In July alone, BYD registered 1,226 vehicles compared to Mazda’s 1,027 units. If BYD maintains this aggressive sales momentum, it is highly likely to overtake Mazda in the overall brand rankings before the end of the third quarter.
