The All-New 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45: The 680 PS Electric Revolution

The iconic Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 is undergoing a radical transformation for its next-generation 2027 model year. In a defining shift for the performance brand, the high-performance compact model is completely ditching its traditional internal combustion engine to become a fully electric powerhouse.

Tri-Motor Powertrain and Supercar Acceleration

At the core of this transition is an advanced tri-motor setup utilizing high-performance axial-flux electric motors. By positioning one motor on the front axle and two at the rear, the CLA 45 delivers a staggering combined output of 680 PS and a monumental 1,759 Nm of torque.

This electric powertrain catapults the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.7 seconds—a massive leap over its petrol-powered predecessor, which clocked the same sprint in 4.0 seconds. The vehicle’s top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h, though enthusiasts can raise that threshold to 270 km/h by opting for the AMG Dynamic Plus package.

Next-Gen Battery, Range, and 800V Charging

Powering the tri-motor assembly is a 94 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a platform shared with the upcoming GLC and C-Class EV models. Thanks to advanced cell efficiency, the CLA 45 achieves an impressive driving range of up to 670 kilometers under the WLTP standard.

The vehicle is built on a high-voltage 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast DC charging speeds of up to 330 kW to ensure minimal downtime at charging stations. Furthermore, a Predictive Performance Manager system is integrated into the vehicle’s software to intelligently optimize power distribution across different race track sectors, ensuring consistent performance during heavy track use.

Preserving the AMG Soul with AMGForce S+

To ensure the electric transition doesn’t lose the visceral emotion expected of an AMG, Mercedes has introduced a specialized AMGForce S+ driving mode. This system brings a multi-sensory experience back to the cockpit:

  • Engine Simulation: It replicates the signature roar of a high-performance four-cylinder engine, utilizing acoustic profiles recorded over 1,600 meticulous measurement sessions.
  • Tactile Shifters: Drivers can interact with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters that simulate mechanical gear changes through artificial torque interruptions.
  • Physical Feedback: Active seat shakers work in tandem with the powertrain to transmit simulated engine vibrations directly to the driver’s seat.

Aerodynamics and Variant Choices

The 2027 lineup will offer versatility in body styles, launching in both the standard sleek silhouette and a practical, sporty Shooting Brake variant.

To manage airflow and optimize stability at high speeds, both versions come equipped with an active rear wing. This aerodynamic feature automatically adjusts its deployment angle based on the vehicle’s speed and selected driving mode, striking the perfect balance between high-speed downforce and low-drag efficiency.
