DGR-Lola: Concept Electric Race Car Promises Faster Lap Times and Extreme Efficiency

A New Vision From Lucas di Grassi and Lola Cars

Formula E veteran Lucas di Grassi has revealed the DGR-Lola, a bold new concept for the future of electric racing. The design is developed together with the revived Lola Cars. Their goal is to show how current technology can deliver performance far beyond today’s racing machines.

Twin Suction Turbines for Massive Downforce

The DGR-Lola uses two suction turbines to create strong downforce. This system helps the car stay planted on the track, especially in slow corners. Early simulations show it can generate up to 1.5 tonnes of downforce. With this grip, the car could reach 3G in tight bends, a level rarely seen in most race cars.

600 kW Electric Power and Modular Battery Pack

The concept features two electric motors that produce 600 kW (804 hp). It also uses a 60 kWh modular battery pack. The engineering team focuses on efficiency as much as performance. The smooth, enclosed body and covered wheels help reduce drag and improve energy use.

Simulations Suggest It Can Outpace F1 at Monaco

Di Grassi says the DGR-Lola could lap the Monaco circuit up to 11 seconds faster than a modern Formula 1 car, based on simulation data. The car uses a full active aerodynamic system that adjusts airflow in real time. This reduces drag on straights and increases grip during cornering.

A New Direction for Electric Racing

The DGR-Lola aims to show what is possible when designers are not limited by current racing rules. All the technologies used in this concept are real and already available. Although the car has not been built yet, it has attracted strong interest from engineers and motorsport analysts.

Challenges Ahead for Real-World Development

Building a working car with turbine-driven downforce will be complex and expensive. Existing racing regulations also do not allow a design like this. Still, the DGR-Lola could inspire the next generation of electric race cars. It opens the door to new ideas in energy efficiency, active aerodynamics, and advanced battery placement.
