Proton e.MAS 7 Maintains EV Leadership in 2025

Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), a subsidiary of PROTON, has announced that the Proton e.MAS 7 continues to lead Malaysia’s electric vehicle market, securing the top spot for the month of August 2025. Between January and August this year, deliveries of the e.MAS 7 reached a total of 5,811 units, comprising 5,455 local sales and 356 exports across four international markets. This achievement has extended the model’s dominance as Malaysia’s best-selling EV for eight cumulative months, representing nearly one in every four EVs sold with a market share of 24 percent.

Customer-Centric Innovation and Upgrades

Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, Zhang Qiang, expressed gratitude to customers for their trust and support, stating that the e.MAS 7 was designed as a car for Malaysians. He highlighted how customer feedback played a key role in shaping new updates, such as the introduction of over-the-air features, new exterior colours, and interior upgrades in July. Zhang emphasised the company’s commitment to continuously improving the ownership experience and delivering long-term value.

Strengthening Malaysia’s EV Industry with Local Assembly

A significant milestone was achieved in August 2025 with the official launch of PROTON’s first dedicated EV plant in Tanjung Malim. Initially introduced as a completely built-up (CBU) unit from China to meet strong demand, the Proton e.MAS 7 will soon transition to local assembly (CKD), becoming the first locally assembled Proton EV.

Expanding Production Capacity and Local Jobs

The new facility, located within the Automotive High Technology Valley (AHTV), has an annual capacity of 20,000 vehicles, with the potential to scale up to 45,000 units as demand increases. This move will strengthen Malaysia’s EV ecosystem by creating skilled jobs, expanding local vendor participation in the supply chain, and improving accessibility for consumers. It also aligns with the Government’s ambition to establish Tanjung Malim as the country’s EV hub, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim calling for the rollout of a competitively priced Proton EV ahead of the ASEAN Summit in October 2025.
