In 2020, the Maserati MC20 heralded the return of the famed Trident brand to the world of supercars. Sleek, potent, and refined, it quickly became a modern icon. Yet for some discerning enthusiasts, owning an MC20 wasn’t enough—they craved something even more distinctive. That desire for individuality is where 7Design enters the story.
The Birth of 7Design
Founded in New York in 2021, this boutique studio approaches car modification with a mission to “shape the icons of tomorrow.” However, 7Design’s work isn’t merely cosmetic. Their “ARIA Carbon” line, which spans hoods, spoilers, diffusers, splitters, rocker panels, and air intakes, is engineered for aerodynamic excellence. Each component undergoes wind tunnel testing and is meticulously shaped to enhance the vehicle’s identity—and its performance.
Aerodynamics and Performance Enhancements
The results are impressive. The aerodynamic efficiency of the MC20 receives a striking upgrade of 123 percent, while downforce increases by approximately 199 pounds (90 kilograms) at 160 km/h and surges to around 795 pounds (360 kilograms) at 320 km/h. These enhancements transform the MC20 closer to the realm of racing cars than traditional road-going supercars.
A Visual Feast of Colors and Styles
Visually, these creations command attention. MC20s reimagined by 7Design emerge in bold hues—flamboyant red, electric blue, striking green, brilliant yellow, or foreboding matte black—making each iteration a rolling, eye-catching masterpiece. Though the team has completed only about twenty projects so far, each one possesses a distinct personality that sets it apart.
Customization Options for Clients
Prospective clients are offered flexibility: they can commission a fully bespoke project through 7Design, or opt to purchase individual components via the company’s online store, upgrading their MC20 piece by piece.
Looking Ahead with Maserati MCPura
With the unveiling of the Maserati MCPura—the MC20’s successor—it’s clear that 7Design’s design and enhancement capabilities are poised to extend to the upcoming model as well.
