Malaysian Army Expands Fleet with 263 Tactical Vehicles Worth RM164.9 Million Across Tedung 4×4 and Kala Platforms

The Malaysian Army is set to induct 263 new tactical utility and scouting vehicles under dual defence procurement packages totalling RM164.91 million, following an official naming ceremony attended by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and local supplier High Point Worldwide on 2 September 2026.

  • Ministry of Defence commits RM164.91 million across two distinct supply agreements to add 263 tactical vehicles to the army’s operational fleet.
  • Programme supplies 163 Tedung 4×4 weapon carriers based on the Agrale Marruá AM250 (RM92.91 million) and 100 Kala high-mobility reconnaissance buggies (RM72 million).
  • The finished platforms were showcased in their final military green specification during an official introduction by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The capital expenditure is split between two separate contracts structured to fulfill distinct battlefield roles, covering heavy weapon support and light forward reconnaissance.

Representing the larger portion of the expenditure at RM92.91 million, the Tedung 4×4 contingent comprises 163 units engineered on the Brazilian Agrale Marruá AM250 double-cab utility architecture. The chassis features a permanent four-wheel-drive system driven by a 170 hp Cummins engine.Weapons mounts across the fleet are divided into two dedicated setups: 80 units are tailored to support automatic grenade launchers (AGL), while the remaining 83 units are outfitted to handle heavy machine guns (HMG).Beyond immediate direct-fire support, the platform retains modular layout capability, permitting technical reconfiguration into forward mobile command posts, signals and communications relay vehicles, or dedicated towing tractors for light field artillery and cannons.

The companion contract, valued at RM72 million, allocates 100 units of the Kala high-mobility reconnaissance buggy to frontline units. The vehicle relies on a lightweight, open-chassis buggy layout engineered to traverse difficult off-road grades and rough terrain during deep scouting assignments.Mechanical propulsion comes from a Rotax 900 cc ACEI turbocharged engine delivering up to 200 hp, with seating configurations designed to transport a squad of four fully equipped personnel into forward observation zones.

Both vehicle lines were officially christened and presented in their production military green paint scheme during the unveiling event.Deliveries are handled in coordination with Wangsa Maju-based defence contractor High Point Worldwide as part of a wider fleet modernising roadmap to upgrade troop transport flexibility and field scouting coverage.
