Subaru Uncharted 2026: The Brand’s Bold New EV

Subaru has officially introduced the 2026 Uncharted, a sleek and compact electric crossover that joins its growing EV portfolio alongside the Solterra and Trailseeker. Unveiled in New York, the Uncharted adopts a fastback design while riding on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, effectively positioning it as a sibling to the Toyota C-HR. Despite the shared platform, Subaru has crafted a design language that aligns with its rugged image, marked by sharp creases, aggressive lower body cladding, and signature six-element headlights.

Performance and Range Options

The 2026 Uncharted comes in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. The base Premium FWD trim is powered by a single electric motor producing 221 horsepower, offering an estimated range of over 300 miles using a 74.7 kWh battery. For those seeking higher performance, the AWD-equipped Sport and GT trims feature dual motors delivering 338 horsepower, a 0–60 mph time of under five seconds, and a range close to 290 miles. Fast charging is supported up to 150 kW, providing a 10–80% top-up in just 30 minutes.

Distinctive Exterior Styling

While mechanically related to the Toyota C-HR, the Uncharted distinguishes itself through its aggressive and athletic design. It sports flared fenders, a fastback rear profile, and stylized lighting elements.

At the rear, the taillight design avoids the full-width LED bar found on its Toyota counterpart, opting instead for split light units that emphasize its sporty character.

Interior Technology and Cabin Layout

Inside, the layout closely resembles the Toyota C-HR, but with Subaru-specific enhancements. A 7-inch digital cluster sits higher for better visibility, while the steering wheel is reshaped with a flat top and bottom for improved ergonomics. A massive 14-inch central touchscreen serves as the infotainment hub, featuring Toyota’s latest software, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and two wireless charging pads. Physical knobs are retained for vital controls like climate and volume.

Comfort and Safety Features

All trims come with Subaru’s All-Weather Package as standard, including heated front seats, mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer.

The car is also equipped with a driver-monitoring system that detects distraction and Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite, which combines a mono-camera and radar for functions like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping.

Trim Highlights: Sport and GT

The Sport variant introduces dual-function X-Mode with Grip Control for off-road readiness, StarTex water-repellent seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera system. The GT trim builds on this with luxury additions such as ventilated front seats, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, panoramic glass roof with shade, heated rear seats, a smart rearview mirror, and exclusive 20-inch wheels.

Production and Expected Pricing

Subaru plans to start production of the Uncharted in Japan by early 2026. Although official pricing has not been confirmed, early estimates suggest a starting price in the low-$30,000 range for the base model, while higher-end Sport and GT trims may climb into the $40,000 range. Pricing and availability could be influenced by import tariffs and federal EV incentives in key markets.
