Rohingya Posing as Malaysian Citizen Detained in Alor Setar Traffic Operation

ALOR SETAR — An attempt by a foreign national to evade law enforcement by masquerading as a local Malaysian citizen unraveled on Monday after his vehicle was intercepted during an enforcement operation by the Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The incident occurred along Jalan Putra when patrol officers spotted a vehicle being driven in a suspicious manner with heavily tinted windows, apparently modified to conceal the driver’s identity.

Upon pulling the vehicle over, enforcement officers discovered multiple regulatory offenses:

  • Unlicensed Driving: The driver was unable to produce a valid Malaysian Driving License.
  • Expired Road Tax: The vehicle’s Motor Vehicle License (LKM) was expired.
  • No Insurance Coverage: The vehicle was operating without valid third-party insurance coverage on public roads.

During the documentation check, the driver attempted to mislead the inspecting officers by presenting a Malaysian Identity Card (MyKad) registered to his wife, falsely asserting that he was of Malay ethnicity. Officers on the scene observed that the suspect remained nonchalant throughout the interrogation, casually chewing betel leaves while maintaining the false claim.

The deception was quickly exposed upon cross-examination of the credentials. The vehicle was confiscated on the spot under statutory transport provisions for further legal proceedings.

The Kedah State JPJ Enforcement Division reiterated that enforcement operations remain strictly non-compromising. The department reaffirmed that traffic regulations and road safety standards will be firmly enforced across all motorists regardless of nationality or background.
