PRO-NET and TVETMARA Sign LOI to Expand EV Technical Training, Launch First Proton e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition

Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) and TVETMARA have entered into a strategic collaboration through a Letter of Intent (LOI) signed on 4 September 2026, establishing a framework to expand electric vehicle (EV) technical training and introducing the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition in Malaysia.

  • PRO-NET and TVETMARA Masjid Tanah execute an LOI to integrate industry-standard EV technical syllabi, apprenticeships, and certification pathways.
  • Initiative introduces the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition to assess practical competencies and technical knowledge among EV technicians and service advisors.
  • Collaboration addresses growing aftersales service demands following Proton e.MAS surpassing 6,000 vehicle registrations as of 31 August 2026.

The agreement was signed by PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang and TVETMARA Masjid Tanah Director Shabudin bin Said, formalising a joint effort between the national automaker’s new-energy subsidiary and the vocational training institution to align academic instruction with automotive electrification requirements.

Under the terms of the LOI, both entities will develop specialised technical training modules that provide vocational students with direct exposure to high-voltage automotive systems, routine maintenance workflows, and diagnostic procedures. The programme incorporates practical industry exposure through structured internships, on-the-job training (OJT), and apprenticeship placements within the Proton e.MAS network, creating an institutional pipeline toward certified EV technician qualifications.

The agreement also establishes the e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition, co-organised with TVETMARA Masjid Tanah. Designed as a dedicated aftersales skills showcase, the event evaluates technicians and service frontline personnel across diagnostic accuracy, hands-on mechanical and electrical capabilities, and technical presentation skills, serving as an assessment benchmark to track vocational competencies across the network.

The workforce training initiative coincides with expanding vehicle volumes on domestic roads, with the Proton e.MAS brand recording more than 6,000 cumulative registrations as of 31 August 2026. According to PRO-NET, strengthening aftersales technical capabilities and service advisor readiness is essential to maintaining uniform maintenance quality and supporting long-term ownership stability as adoption rates for electrified vehicles increase across the country.

PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang stated that developing skilled service personnel must parallel the broader adoption of electric mobility, noting that partnering directly with TVETMARA facilitates the transfer of operational manufacturer standards into technical classrooms while establishing clear employment pathways for graduating vocational students.
