Malaysian Fuel Prices for 27 August to 2 September 2026: Unsubsidised Fuels Rise by 5 Sen

KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has announced the weekly retail fuel prices under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) for the week of 27 August to 2 September 2026. Unsubsidised petrol and diesel prices have increased by 5 sen per litre across the board, while targeted subsidised rates under the BUDI MADANI and fleet control mechanisms remain unchanged.

Breakdown of Subsidised Frameworks

  • BUDI95 (Petrol): Maintains the capped retail price of RM1.99 per litre for eligible Malaysian citizens possessing a valid driving licence and MyKad, subject to a combined monthly allocation limit of 200 litres.
  • BUDI Diesel: Retains the subsidised price of RM2.10 per litre for registered individual diesel vehicle owners, drawing from the shared BUDI monthly volume quota.
  • Commercial Transport Schemes (SKPS / SKDS): Fleet operators under the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) and Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) continue paying fixed rates of RM2.05 per litre and RM2.15 per litre, respectively, to mitigate freight and supply chain cost pressures.

Government Subsidy Absorption and Market Context

According to the Ministry of Finance, the recent uptick in market prices tracks movements in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS) refined product benchmarks and broader crude oil volatility:

  • Subsidy Absorption Rate: With unsubsidised market prices at current levels, the Malaysian government is absorbing RM1.83 per litre (~48% of the market price) for each litre of BUDI95 petrol, and RM2.62 per litre (~56% of the market price) for each litre of BUDI diesel.
  • APM Edition: This pricing update marks the 36th weekly edition of 2026 and the 399th consecutive weekly update since the current APM floating system commenced in January 2019.
