KUALA LUMPUR – A double-storey terraced house in Alam Damai, Cheras, was completely destroyed in an early morning fire yesterday. Authorities suspect the blaze was triggered by an electric vehicle (EV) that was being charged in the home’s foyer.
State Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, PgKB I Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, stated that the Kuala Lumpur Operations Command Centre received an emergency call via the NG999 line at 5:03 a.m. Following the alert, a team of firefighters was immediately mobilized to the scene.
The firefighting operation was spearheaded by the Cheras Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), with crucial backup provided by the Sungai Besi and Bandar Tun Razak stations. The effort involved 22 personnel of various ranks and a fleet of fire engines, including FRT and LFRT machines, a water tanker, and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
“Upon the fire and rescue team’s arrival at the location, it was confirmed that a fire had completely engulfed a double-storey terraced house measuring 20 by 60 square feet. The destruction caused by the fire is estimated at 100 percent,” Ahmad Mukhlis said in a statement.
He further noted that initial observations point towards the fire originating from an EV that was actively being charged in the car porch area of the residence.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported during the terrifying incident. The firefighters successfully contained the blaze, and the entire extinguishing operation—along with follow-up safety checks—was officially completed by 6:41 a.m.
