roton continues to strengthen its regional electric vehicle (EV) presence with the official launch of the Proton e.MAS 5 in Singapore. Brought in by VINCAR Group, the brand’s official distributor in the island nation, this marks the second e.MAS vehicle to debut across the Causeway, following the successful introduction of the e.MAS 7 last year.
The compact EV enters the highly competitive Singaporean market with a single Premium variant, carrying an exclusive launch price of SGD 158,988 (approximately RM 501,000). While this price tag may seem astronomical compared to the Malaysian market, it is largely due to Singapore’s Certificate of Entitlement (COE) regulatory framework, which functions as a heavily priced 10-year driving permit. With Category A COE premiums currently at a record high, the e.MAS 5 still positions itself competitively alongside rivals in its segment.
Performance and Range Equivalency
The Singapore-bound e.MAS 5 shares identical specifications with the Premium variant sold in Malaysia. It is powered by a rear-mounted traction motor that produces 116 PS (85 kW) and 150 Nm of torque.
The motor draws power from a 40.16 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery sourced from CATL, which delivers a WLTP-rated range of 325 kilometers on a single charge. For recharging, the EV supports 6.6 kW AC charging and 71 kW DC fast charging, the latter capable of replenishing the battery from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes.
Exclusive Ownership Benefits
To attract buyers in Singapore’s mature EV ecosystem, the Proton e.MAS 5 is bundled with a comprehensive package of ownership benefits. Buyers will receive:
- Complimentary charging credits.
- Specific ownership benefits valued at SGD 5,000.
- Zero downpayment financing options.
- A 10-year (or up to 200,000 km) warranty for the high-voltage battery.
- A cross-border warranty allowing for servicing and roadside assistance in both Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia.
- Complimentary cross-border data roaming between Malaysia and Singapore for five years.
This launch not only underlines the growing confidence in Malaysian-developed mobility solutions but also positions Proton as a formidable player capable of competing in markets with discerning consumers.
