CKD Plant in Tanjung Malim
KUALA LUMPUR — In a bold and multifaceted move, BYD Sime Motors has launched several major initiatives that together signal a new chapter for electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia. The automaker confirmed the establishment of a Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) assembly facility in Tanjung Malim, unveiled a refreshed version of its popular BYD Seal, and inaugurated the country’s largest BYD 3S Centre in Balakong.
The new CKD plant will span an expansive 600,000 square metres in Tanjung Malim, Perak. Slated to begin vehicle production in the second half of 2026, this facility is BYD’s strategic effort to localize assembly operations, making EVs more competitively priced while fostering the brand’s entrenched presence in Malaysia’s automotive market. Industry observers note that the move toward CKD aligns with government incentives, as locally assembled EVs benefit from exemptions on excise duty and sales tax until 31 December 2027.
BYD Seal 2025 Launch

At the unveiling of the updated 2025 BYD Seal, Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD’s Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, emphasized the significance of these developments. He remarked that Malaysia has always been a vital Southeast Asian market for BYD, and that these announcements mark the beginning of a new chapter. With the backing of Sime Motors, he expressed confidence in deepening the company’s local roots and bringing world-class EV technology closer to Malaysian customers.
The newly refreshed BYD Seal now enters the Malaysian market with improved styling and updated features. Pricing begins at RM 171,800 for the Premium variant, while the Performance edition carries a price tag of RM 191,800.
Largest BYD 3S Centre in Balakong

Complementing these strategic moves is the opening of what is now the largest BYD 3S Centre in Malaysia, located in Balakong and operated by Wing Hin Ventures. The facility offers a comprehensive range of services—including expansive showrooms, service bays, and a dedicated after-sales department—under one roof.
Commitment to Malaysia’s EV Future
Together, these developments showcase BYD’s commitment to Malaysia’s EV future. From bolstering local production capabilities to enhancing product offerings and customer service infrastructure, the company is making a concerted push to elevate its role in the nation’s automobility landscape.
