Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially launched the all-new G 580 with EQ Technology, heralding a new era for the legendary G-Class. Maintaining its iconic design and unparalleled off-road prowess, this electric version fuses tradition with progressive technology, redefining the SUV’s legacy for a new generation of drivers.
Performance-Driven Electric Powertrain
The electric G 580 delivers 432 kW (587 hp) and a staggering 1,164 Nm of torque via four individually controlled electric motors positioned near each wheel. This setup ensures exceptional performance across all terrains and makes it the first mass-produced Mercedes-Benz vehicle to use an individual-wheel drive system. With a 0–100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed capped at 180 km/h, the G 580 is as swift as it is capable.
Battery and Charging Efficiency
At its core lies a robust 116 kWh lithium-ion battery housed within a reinforced ladder frame, offering up to 473 km of WLTP-certified range. Supporting both AC (11 kW) and DC (200 kW) charging, it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 32 minutes with fast charging. Designed for durability and safety, the battery benefits from a multi-stage high-voltage protection system and intelligent underbody shielding.
Innovative Off-Road Capabilities
Enhancing its off-road identity, the G 580 comes equipped with advanced functions like G-TURN, which allows the SUV to spin on the spot, G-STEERING for tighter turning circles, and an intelligent crawl function for cruise control-like off-road navigation. The virtual differential locks and torque vectoring system further improve traction and control across all terrains.
Optimised Suspension and Low Range Gear
Retaining the G-Class’s ladder-frame construction, the G 580 is built with adaptive damping and a re-engineered rear De Dion axle. It features both HIGH and LOW RANGE gear settings, the latter allowing a 2:1 reduction ratio for enhanced off-road torque. With a fording depth of 850 mm and side-slope capability up to 35°, it surpasses even its combustion-engine predecessors in some metrics.
Dynamic Drive Settings with ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT
The driver can tailor vehicle behavior using the ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT feature, which includes Comfort, Sport, Individual, Trail, and Rock driving modes. These modes adjust key systems like motor output, suspension, and steering to match on-road or off-road demands.
Signature Sound with G-ROAR
To replace the absent engine growl, G-ROAR delivers a bespoke sound inspired by V8 tones. It adapts based on driving mode and includes “aura” and “event” sounds for added engagement, from unlocking the car to charging notifications.
Advanced Infotainment and Assistance Systems
Inside, the electric G-Class integrates the latest MBUX infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch displays, voice assistant, augmented reality navigation, and full smartphone connectivity. Rear passengers can enjoy the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System. Safety is equally advanced with features like Active Steering Assist, DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360° camera supported by the “transparent bonnet” function.
Interior and MANUFAKTUR Personalisation
The cabin blends luxury and ruggedness, offering ambient lighting, nappa leather upholstery, massage seats, temperature-controlled cup holders, and a Burmester® 3D sound system. Through the MANUFAKTUR customisation program, buyers can tailor everything from seat graphics to trim materials with over a million possible combinations.
Exterior Refinement with Functional Flair
Despite its electric heart, the G 580 retains classic design cues such as its boxy silhouette and round headlights. Aerodynamic enhancements include a new spoiler lip, A-pillar cladding, and air curtains. Optional design touches such as the Night Package and body-colored rear design box add modern flair.
Exclusive EDITION ONE Launch Model
The limited EDITION ONE features exclusive elements like a MANUFAKTUR logo package, blue brake callipers, black and blue trim, and special leather-wrapped interiors. Priced from RM 998,888, it includes high-end finishes and equipment not found on the standard version.
Launch Details and Pricing
Available in Malaysia from RM 958,888 (standard) and RM 998,888 (EDITION ONE), the G 580 includes a complimentary wallbox and installation. Public debut takes place from June 27–29, 2025, at Raintree Plaza, The Exchange TRX. Visitors can experience demonstrations of its off-road features like the G-TURN and steep climb capabilities.
