Venom Unleashed: The Hypercar That Dares to Break 300 MPH

The Hennessey Venom F5 is not just another fast car—it’s a bold proclamation from Texas that the hypercar world still has undiscovered frontiers. Built entirely in-house by Hennessey Special Vehicles, the Venom F5 is the successor to the Venom GT, but unlike its predecessor, it features a completely proprietary design. From the chassis to the engine, everything is bespoke, created with a singular purpose: to break the 300 mph barrier and leave a lasting legacy in speed history.

Unleashing the Fury: Powertrain and Acceleration

At its heart lies the “Fury” engine, a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers an astonishing 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque. This handcrafted powerplant, bolted to a 7-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission, propels the F5 to a theoretical top speed of over 330 mph. While official testing is ongoing, its current real-world acceleration figures are already staggering, hitting 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 4.7 seconds, and 0 to 250 mph in just 15.5 seconds. In late 2024, it set a blistering half-mile time of 14.44 seconds—an unofficial record that hints at its full capabilities.

Lightweight Mastery: Chassis and Aerodynamics

Built on a featherweight carbon-fiber monocoque weighing just 86 kg, the entire car tips the scales at around 1,385 kg dry. Its aerodynamic profile is equally aggressive, designed for maximum downforce and minimum drag.

The car’s body features a flat undertray, massive rear diffuser, and an optional fixed rear wing. Its coefficient of drag is a claimed 0.39—a number that strikes a balance between speed and control. The suspension is fully adjustable with bespoke Penske dampers, while Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes provide immense stopping power to match its ferocity.

Driving the Beast: Road Manners and Driving Modes

Driving the Venom F5 is described as a raw and unfiltered experience. The engine roars like a natural disaster, delivering power in waves that feel like rocket propulsion. Despite its outrageous specs, it features five selectable drive modes—Sport, Wet, Drag, Track, and F5—that allow for a degree of daily usability. However, the single-clutch transmission, while faster and lighter than a dual-clutch, can be unforgiving at low speeds, making it feel less refined than some European competitors.

Exclusivity Defined: Limited Production and Variants

The Venom F5 is more than a one-off engineering marvel. It’s the centerpiece of a carefully curated, extremely limited production. Only 24 coupe units were made, all of which were sold out by 2021. Since then, Hennessey has introduced new variants, including the F5 Roadster, the F5 Revolution track-focused edition, and the ultra-exclusive F5-M Roadster featuring a six-speed manual transmission.

The F5-M, in particular, has captured attention as the most powerful manual car ever built, with only 12 units scheduled for production. A new Evolution package, priced at an additional $285,000, pushes power even further to 2,031 horsepower and cuts the 0–200 mph time to just 10.3 seconds.

Price of Power: Ownership and Value

Prices for the Venom F5 start around $1.6 million, with higher-spec variants and special editions reaching over $3 million. While these numbers may seem astronomical, the value lies not in practicality but in rarity, craftsmanship, and boundary-pushing ambition. As John Hennessey himself states, “Nobody needs a car like this—but that’s the point.”

Chasing History: Speed Records and Testing Challenges

Beyond its specs, the Venom F5 represents the modern apex of American engineering. It’s a car built on raw horsepower and fearlessness, but backed by world-class design and innovation. In early testing at the Kennedy Space Center.

One F5 suffered a crash during high-speed trials—a sobering reminder of the dangers at these velocities—but the team remains committed to reclaiming the world’s top speed title. Hennessey aims to achieve and verify a 300+ mph run in controlled conditions, with test drivers describing the F5 as stable, linear, and terrifyingly quick even past 250 mph.

Conclusion: Power Meets Passion

In conclusion, the Hennessey Venom F5 is a masterpiece of extremes. It’s a visceral hypercar that sacrifices nothing in its pursuit of top speed glory. Every detail, from the screaming V8 to the carbon shell, is engineered to push boundaries. For collectors, it’s an icon. For drivers, it’s a test of courage. And for the world, it’s proof that America can still produce a hypercar that doesn’t just compete—it dominates.
