BMW’s Urban Beast Hits Sentul Depot

BMW Malaysia made a bold statement at The Yard, Sentul Depot over the weekend with the highly anticipated launch of the all-new fourth-generation BMW X3 (G45). Part of the “My BMW World 2025” showcase, the event was themed “Driven by Legacy, Defined by Progress,” and served as a dynamic intersection between BMW’s storied heritage and its cutting-edge innovations.

A Modern Face for a Modern City

The new BMW X3 emerged as a refined yet muscular evolution of its predecessor. Sleeker body lines, a more aggressive kidney grille, and redesigned LED headlamps give the SUV a more assertive road presence. The design balances elegance and athleticism, appealing to both loyal BMW enthusiasts and new-generation urbanites.

Powertrain Options with a Purpose

BMW Malaysia confirmed that the new X3 will be offered with a diverse powertrain lineup, including mild-hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants. This aligns with BMW’s continued strategy of offering the Power of Choice—enabling customers to select the right drivetrain for their lifestyle while still benefiting from performance and efficiency. The top-tier X3 M50 xDrive—featuring a turbocharged inline-six engine—stands out as the most performance-oriented of the lot, bringing extra thrill to the premium SUV experience.

CKD Advantage: Built for Malaysia

As with previous models, the new X3 will be locally assembled (CKD) in Kulim, Kedah. This ensures that Malaysian customers can enjoy premium features and performance at more competitive pricing, making the luxury SUV accessible without compromising on quality or innovation.

BMW X Challenge: Feel the Grit

What set this launch apart was the BMW X Challenge—a purpose-built obstacle course that allowed visitors to experience the X3’s xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system in action. Attendees were invited to test the SUV on a rugged terrain simulation, complete with steep ramps, uneven gravel surfaces, and simulated low-traction conditions. The event provided a thrilling and hands-on demonstration of how the X3 handles real-world driving challenges with poise and precision.

Sentul Depot: The Ideal Canvas

The choice of The Yard at Sentul Depot—a historic railway warehouse turned urban event space—offered a symbolic backdrop for the launch. Surrounded by industrial brickwork and modern lighting, the space echoed the X3’s theme of bridging heritage and future mobility. Visitors could explore various BMW-themed installations showcasing the brand’s journey through motorsports, innovation, and sustainability.

Customer Experience: Beyond the Drive

Alongside the vehicle showcase, the event featured the BMW Café, lifestyle merchandise, digital tech zones, and VR experiences. It wasn’t just about seeing the X3—it was about feeling the BMW lifestyle. Families, media, and car enthusiasts alike were immersed in a curated experience that emphasized premium ownership, community, and forward-looking luxury.

Verdict: A Strategic and Stylish Launch

BMW Malaysia’s launch of the all-new X3 was more than just a product reveal—it was a statement of intent. The event not only reaffirmed BMW’s leadership in the premium SUV segment but also highlighted its commitment to electrification, customer engagement, and local relevance. With its refined design, hybrid tech, and Malaysian assembly, the new BMW X3 is poised to continue its success—and possibly raise the benchmark for its class.
