Geely Announces Global Monjaro EM-i Hybrid D-SUV; Potential Basis for Rumoured Proton X80

HANGZHOU, 20 August 2026 — Geely Auto has announced that its new D-segment plug-in hybrid SUV, the Monjaro EM-i, will begin its global rollout in late August 2026, debuting first in Egypt before expanding to European and other international markets.

The Monjaro EM-i serves as the international export iteration of the Xingyue L Plus in China, transitioning from the previous model’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) to Geely’s newer Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) Evo platform. In regional contexts such as Malaysia, the Monjaro/Xingyue L platform has frequently been cited as the candidate platform for a prospective Proton X80.

The Monjaro EM-i is the first Geely model developed for export to incorporate the brand’s electric all-wheel-drive system (e-AWD) alongside the EM-i Super Hybrid powertrain setup.
