VW Celebrates 1.5 Million Electric Milestone

A Milestone Achievement
Volkswagen has achieved a major milestone, delivering its 1.5 millionth electric vehicle from the ID. family—a feat accomplished in less than five years since the first ID.3 rolled off the production line in November 2019. The landmark vehicle was a sleek black ID.7 Tourer Pro, manufactured at Volkswagen’s Emden plant and handed over to a customer from Vechta.

Global EV Production Network
The Emden facility stands as Volkswagen’s third dedicated EV plant in Germany, joining Zwickau and Dresden in the transition to electric vehicle manufacturing. Beyond Germany, Volkswagen’s ID. models are also produced in Chattanooga in the United States and through partnerships across China.

Celebrating with Leaders
On hand for the ceremonial handover was Lower Saxony’s Minister President Olaf Lies, who, together with Volkswagen board members Martin Sander and Kai Grünitz, underscored the model’s symbolic importance for regional industry and the wider EV transformation. The ID.7 Tourer Pro, the 1.5-millionth unit, delivers an impressive range of up to 606 kilometers.

Volkswagen’s Leadership in EV Sales
Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales, stated that the delivery of 1.5 million ID. vehicles underscores Volkswagen’s pioneering role in the field of electromobility. He highlighted that Volkswagen now leads EV registration figures not just in Germany but across Europe, proving that the ID. lineup resonates strongly with customer needs.

Expansion of the ID. Family

Since its debut, the ID. family has steadily expanded. It began with the ID.3 in 2020—Volkswagen’s first vehicle designed from the ground up as an electric car using the MEB platform—followed by the ID.4 in 2021, then the ID.5, ID.6 (exclusive to China), and the ID. Buzz. The lineup most recently welcomed the ID.7, offered as both a sedan and estate (Tourer), and the China-only ID. Unyx 06.

Future Plans for Affordable EVs
Looking ahead, Volkswagen plans to broaden EV accessibility by introducing the ID. 2all in 2026, followed by the production version of the ID. Every1 a year later. These models are designed to serve as affordable entry points into the EV market, reinforcing Volkswagen’s commitment to making electric mobility both accessible and sustainable.
