New Lap Record Achieved
The Mercedes‑AMG One, a limited‑run hypercar infused with Formula 1 hybrid technology, has set a new benchmark on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Driven by DTM driver and AMG brand ambassador Maro Engel, the car completed the legendary 20.832 km track in just 6 minutes 29.090 seconds, slashing more than six seconds off its own previous record and breaking the symbolic 6:30 barrier.
Previous Record in 2022
In 2022, Engel piloted the AMG One to a lap time of 6 minutes 35.183 seconds under challenging conditions, including damp stretches. That run had already dethroned the AMG GT Black Series by a 13-second margin. At the time, Mercedes‑AMG believed the car had the potential to go even faster in perfect weather.
Perfect Conditions for a Perfect Lap
The new record was achieved on 23 September 2024 under near-ideal conditions. With ambient temperatures at 15 °C and asphalt at 20 °C, the track was primed for high performance. Engel’s third flying lap sealed the record, officially timed and verified by TÜV Rheinland and a notary present at the scene.
Full Utilization of Race Technology
Engel engaged the One’s “Race Plus” mode, which delivers maximum power and downforce. The car’s ride height was lowered by 37 mm at the front and 30 mm at the rear, while DRS (Drag Reduction System) was activated for top straight-line speed. Mercedes‑AMG’s sophisticated four‑stage Energy Flow Control system also helped optimize hybrid power delivery and regeneration, thanks to pre-run simulations and strategy planning.
A Road Car Like No Other
The Mercedes‑AMG One generates 782 kW (1,049 hp) from its 1.6‑liter turbocharged V6 paired with four electric motors. Notably, it’s the first road‑legal production car to break the 6:30 mark at the Nürburgring. No other production car has come close on the full 20.832 km configuration.
Pushing the Limits Further
AMG chairman Michael Schiebe praised the team’s continued pursuit of perfection, while Engel shared that this time, the dry surface allowed him to tap into the car’s full potential. Their efforts prove that the AMG One isn’t just about hitting the track—it’s about mastering it.
