Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets New Fast-Charging Benchmark

The 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has officially become the fastest‑charging electric vehicle tested by Car and Driver, raising the bar in EV charging performance. The upgraded charging system, combined with a 97 kWh Performance Battery Plus, allowed it to outpace rivals in both speed and efficiency.

Record-Breaking Charging Performance

In a real-world DC fast‑charge test, the Taycan Turbo GT achieved a sustained average charging power of 307 kW during the first ten minutes, bringing its charge from 10% to roughly 65% in that short span. Over a full 10–90% charge cycle, it averaged 213 kW and completed the session in just 24 minutes. Despite having a larger battery than competitors, it still matched or exceeded their times.

Peak Charging Power and Efficiency

The Taycan hit a peak charging rate of 317 kW—just shy of Porsche’s claimed 320 kW maximum. Charging tapered off as the battery filled, but even at 90% state of charge, it was still pulling 102 kW. The full charge session cost about USD 47.82, roughly equal to 12 gallons of premium fuel.

Unmatched Acceleration and Track Performance

With 1,019 horsepower, the Taycan Turbo GT sprints from 0 to 60 mph in a staggering 1.9 seconds. It accelerates to 124 mph in just 6.6 seconds, making it the quickest production sedan Car and Driver has ever tested. This makes it not just a charging champion, but a performance icon as well.

Compromises in Highway Range

While it excels in performance and charging, the Taycan Turbo GT delivers around 270 miles of range in a 75 mph highway test. This is less than other Taycan variants with lower power outputs, highlighting a trade‑off between maximum performance and extended cruising efficiency.

2025 Taycan Lineup Brings Major Upgrades

Beyond the Turbo GT, the entire 2025 Taycan lineup has been refreshed. Battery choices now include 82 kWh and 97 kWh options, with improved range and charging systems across the board. The Taycan 4S now boasts up to 330 miles of range, while the base rear‑wheel‑drive model can reach 360 miles. Porsche’s new active ride suspension further enhances comfort and control.

Still the Fastest Charger in a Competitive Market

Despite strong competition from models like the Kia EV6 and Audi e‑tron GT, which complete 10–80% charges in under 20 minutes, the Taycan Turbo GT still leads by achieving 10–90% in only 24 minutes, all while managing an ultra‑high peak charging rate.

Crowned Car and Driver EV of the Year

The 2025 Taycan family, from base models to the Turbo GT, was recently named Car and Driver’s EV of the Year. Judges praised its advanced technology, dynamic driving experience, and real-world usability. Porsche’s combination of performance, luxury, and engineering prowess remains unmatched in the electric segment.
