Maserati Sparks Debate at Goodwood: Coupe or Convertible?

Maserati turned heads at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed by presenting two versions of its refreshed supercar: the hardtop MCPura and the open-roof MCPura Cielo. These models, formerly known as the MC20 and MC20 Cielo, share the same core engineering—carbon-fiber monocoque, Nettuno twin-turbo V6 engine, and dual-clutch transmission—but offer distinctly different driving experiences.

The Coupe: A Timeless Silhouette

The MCPura coupe captures the essence of a classic supercar. Its sleek, uninterrupted roofline and rigid structure deliver a purist’s driving experience.

This version appeals to those who value precision handling, lightweight performance, and an aerodynamic profile. It remains unchanged in terms of engineering but benefits from Maserati’s light styling updates as part of the MCPura rebranding.

The Cielo: Open-Air Emotion

In contrast, the MCPura Cielo brings a different kind of thrill. The convertible features a two-piece retractable hardtop that folds away in just 12 seconds. It also includes an electrochromic glass panel, allowing drivers to switch between transparency and shade on demand.

While the added weight may slightly alter dynamics, the joy of experiencing the Nettuno V6’s roar in the open air offers unmatched excitement.

Styling Updates with the MCPura Identity
Both models now wear the “MCPura” badge, reflecting Maserati’s renewed focus on purity, performance, and exclusivity. Subtle design revisions include a restyled front fascia, minor interior tweaks, and refined material finishes. Despite these updates, Maserati has ensured that the core mechanical character of the MC20 is preserved.

No Wrong Answer, Only Personal Choice
The choice between the coupe and convertible comes down to personality. The coupe is for the driving purist who seeks control and sharpness, while the Cielo is for those who prioritize emotion and the pleasure of top-down motoring. Maserati hasn’t crowned a definitive winner because both interpretations serve different thrills—without compromising the supercar experience.
