RM50,000 Pledge: Chery Strengthens Support for Malaysian Athletes

Chery Malaysia has strengthened its dedication to community and national development by announcing a RM50,000 contribution to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN) during the launch of its all-new TIGGO CROSS on July 9. This move reflects the brand’s ongoing support for nurturing Malaysian talent—both on the roads and in sports.

Long-Term Commitment Through Vehicle Sales

The contribution is not a one-off initiative. Chery further revealed that a portion of proceeds from every TIGGO CROSS sold this year will be channelled to KWASN, establishing a consistent stream of support for national sports programmes and development.

Performance Beyond Vehicles

According to Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia, this initiative is rooted in the company’s values. “At Chery, we believe performance goes beyond vehicles — it’s about empowering people. Through this initiative, we aim to support more Malaysian athletes and local sports organisations in reaching greater heights,” he said.

Celebrating Malaysian Athletes’ Achievements

This is not Chery Malaysia’s first involvement in local sports. In 2024, the company rewarded Malaysian medallists from the Paris Olympics with brand-new vehicles, recognising their excellence on the global stage and further reinforcing its commitment to national sports success.

KWASN: Supporting Sports at All Levels

KWASN is a public trust fund under the Ministry of Youth and Sports that provides grants for organising sports programmes and supporting athlete participation at international competitions. It also focuses on helping athletes—whether under associations or independently—improve their world rankings. The fund is managed with strict oversight and includes representation from the Ministry of Finance to ensure transparency.

Encouraging Private-Sector Involvement

Chery Malaysia recognises the importance of corporate support in building a thriving sports ecosystem. The company has called on more private-sector brands to invest in youth and sports development, helping shape a stronger, healthier Malaysia.

Grassroots Engagement and Youth Development

Chery’s dedication extends to grassroots sports as well. Through collaboration with local associations, the brand backs initiatives involving badminton, football, cycling, running, and pickleball. These programmes aim to foster healthier lifestyles and create stronger, more engaged communities.

Strong Demand for TIGGO CROSS

The all-new TIGGO CROSS has already seen over 1,000 bookings since its launch. With smart design, hybrid innovation, and dynamic performance, it offers value to Malaysian consumers. Prices start at RM88,800 for the 1.5L Turbo variant and RM99,800 for the 1.5L Hybrid CSH. Both models are now available for test drives nationwide.
