Puchong LRT Incident Claims Life of Taiwanese Man

A Taiwanese man lost his life after falling onto the Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks at the Pusat Bandar Puchong station on June 3, 2025. The incident occurred around 5:54 PM and caused a temporary disruption to train services.

Emergency Response

Emergency personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, and Serdang Hospital medical team responded promptly. Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and later taken to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Rapid Rail’s Statement and Apology

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd issued an apology and expressed deep regret over the incident. The company extended condolences to the victim’s family and apologized for service delays. Train services at four affected stations—Bandar Puteri, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Pusat Bandar Puchong, and IOI Puchong Jaya—resumed normal operations by 8:52 PM.

Cooperation with Authorities and Family Support

Rapid Rail has pledged full cooperation with the authorities during the investigation. It is also working with the Taiwanese embassy to ensure appropriate support is extended to the victim’s family.

Renewed Calls for LRT Safety Measures

The incident has reignited public concern over rail safety in Malaysia. Advocates are urging the government and transit operators to implement stricter safety protocols, including:

  • Platform screen doors
  • Tactile flooring for the visually impaired
  • Increased staff presence on platforms

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fall. Preliminary findings suggest it may have been accidental. The Transport Ministry has confirmed that CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
