Proton e.MAS has consolidated its market lead in the domestic electric mobility sector, capturing more than 60% of all battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in Malaysia through the first eight months of 2026 with 27,403 vehicles registered locally between January and August.
- Proton e.MAS accounts for six out of every ten electric vehicles registered in Malaysia in 2026, commanding an approximate 60% share of the pure EV segment and 32.5% of the total electrified (xEV) market.
- Combined global deliveries reach 27,856 units year-to-date, led by 18,014 units of the compact e.MAS 5 alongside 4,278 units of the e.MAS 7 BEV and 5,562 units of the e.MAS 7 PHEV.
- All model lines have transitioned to complete local assembly (CKD) at the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) facility in Tanjong Malim, backed by an aftersales network achieving 98.8% common parts availability.
The market performance follows a record August intake where the brand exceeded 6,000 monthly deliveries for the first time. Cumulative sales through August 2026 stand at 27,856 units across domestic and export channels. The volume driver remains the entry-level e.MAS 5 hatchback with 18,014 total registrations, making it Malaysia’s highest-volume electric car. The larger e.MAS 7 accounts for 4,278 registrations as the leading electric SUV in the segment, while the e.MAS 7 PHEV added 5,562 domestic deliveries to capture the top sales position within the plug-in hybrid category.

On the industrialisation front, distributor PRO-NET confirmed that all current Proton e.MAS models and powertrain variants have transitioned to complete local assembly (CKD) at the dedicated EV manufacturing plant located within the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim. The operational shift supports local tier-one supplier development, domestic component localisation, and skilled technical employment.

To support the growing vehicle base, customer infrastructure has been expanded across both physical and digital channels. The brand’s nationwide footprint comprises 60 operational dealerships, 46 authorised service centres, and 10 Body & Paint facilities, supported by an internal logistics target securing 98.8% availability for common maintenance and repair components.
Charging access is coordinated through an Integrated Live Charging Map embedded within the vehicle infotainment operating system and the mobile companion application, linking drivers to over 4,700 public charge points representing approximately 90% of the country’s public charging network. To address home charging barriers for apartment and condominium residents, PRO-NET established technical partnerships with ChargeSini, JomCharge, Charge+, Time Charge N Go, and RExharge. Under this arrangement, registered owners receive a subsidised residential charging tariff of RM0.63 per kWh valid through 31 December 2026 across more than 1,500 dedicated charging bays in over 500 high-rise residential properties.

Workforce upskilling remains integrated with vocational training institutions. In August 2026, 37 aftersales technicians representing 25 dealerships attained Level 2 EV technical certification in partnership with TVETMARA. Ongoing personnel development is structured around the e.MAS Certified Technician Programme (e.CTP) and Certified Service Advisor Programme (e.CSA), evaluated via the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition involving frontline service staff from 45 dealerships nationwide.
Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, stated that commanding over 60% of the domestic EV market underscores expanding public confidence in the national brand’s new-energy offerings. He noted that the organisation will continue targeting charging network access, vocational technical training, and production localisation in line with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
