KUALA LUMPUR — The organizers of Malaysia’s iconic two-stroke motorcycle gathering, RXZ Members, have officially proposed that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) release a special vehicle registration number plate series ranging from “RXZ 1” to “RXZ 9999” in conjunction with the upcoming RXZ Members 9.0 event.
The proposal, shared via the official RXZ Members social media channels, has quickly ignited enthusiasm across the local motoring community, with thousands of riders and collectors expressing support for a dedicated plate series honoring the legendary Yamaha RX-Z.
A Tribute to a Motoring Cultural Icon
First introduced in the mid-1980s, the Yamaha RX-Z holds legendary status in Southeast Asian motorcycle culture, particularly in Malaysia. Over nearly four decades, the 135cc two-stroke icon evolved through distinct generations—from the classic 5-speed and “Boss” variants to the beloved “Mili” and “Catalyzer” models.
The annual RXZ Members gathering, traditionally held at the Gong Badak Motorsport Circuit in Terengganu, has grown into one of the largest single-model automotive gatherings in the region, drawing over 40,000 to 60,000 riders nationwide and from neighboring countries like Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.
The proposal to introduce an exclusive “RXZ” plate sequence represents a milestone recognition of this community:
- Collector Value: High demand for single-digit, double-digit, and motif numbers (such as RXZ 135, RXZ 5, or RXZ 6) matching bike models and engine configurations.
- Community Identity: Giving owners a legitimate, JPJ-recognized way to personalize their restored and pristine machines.
- Official Recognition: Elevating grassroots two-stroke heritage into mainstream Malaysian motoring culture.
Potential Revenue Boost for the Government
Special vehicle registration series have historically served as significant revenue drivers for the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and JPJ via the online bidding platform, JPJeBid.
| Special Plate Series | Target Segment | Outcome / Impact |
| FF Series | General Public / Enthusiasts | Generated over RM34 million in total bids |
| GOLD Series | 50th Federal Territories Day | Generated over RM17 million |
| M_M Series | National Day Celebrations | High collector and public participation |
| Proposed RXZ Series | 2-Stroke & Motorcycle Enthusiasts | Expected record-high bids for niche two-wheel series |
Should the Ministry of Transport and JPJ approve the tender, bidding for premium numbers such as RXZ 1, RXZ 135, and RXZ 9999 is projected to draw substantial interest not only from grassroots bikers but also prominent automotive collectors and commercial figures across the country.
Looking Ahead to RXZ Members 9.0
Beyond the plate proposal, the organizers are focusing on logistics, safety campaigns, and event planning for the 9.0 edition. Past gatherings have generated millions of ringgit for the local economy in Terengganu through hospitality, food, fuel, and tourism sectors.
Enthusiasts and community members are now awaiting official feedback from the Ministry of Transport and JPJ regarding the viability, gazetting process, and tender timeline for the RXZ 1 – RXZ 9999 series.
