The Premium EV Showdown: 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV Prepares to Battle the BMW iX3 in Malaysia

The battleground for premium electric SUVs in Malaysia is heating up. Following the recent launch of the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has fired its own salvo by releasing the estimated pricing for the highly anticipated 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV. With an estimated price tag ranging from RM370,000 to RM400,000, the stage is set for a classic German rivalry in the electric era.

For buyers who registered their interest back in December, the wait is nearing an end. But how does this new electric GLC stack up against its Bavarian rival?

Next-Generation Electric Architecture

Underpinning the new GLC EV is the brand’s dedicated MB.EA-Medium platform. This brings a major technological leap: an 800-volt electrical architecture.

Power comes from a 94 kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a highly respectable 713 km of range (WLTP). However, the real party trick of the 800-volt system is its charging capability. The GLC EV can handle DC fast charging at blistering speeds of up to 330 kW. In ideal conditions, this means you can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. For home charging, it supports 11 kW AC as standard, with a 22 kW AC upgrade available as an option.

The debut variant for global markets, the GLC400 4Matic, packs a serious punch. Its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain generates 489 PS. Interestingly, the rear motor is paired with a two-speed transmission, while the front makes do with a single reduction gear, optimizing both off-the-line acceleration and high-speed cruising.

The Tale of the Tape: GLC EV vs. iX3

The arrival of the GLC EV directly challenges the newly launched BMW iX3, which hit the Malaysian market with a starting price of RM380k. While both are premium mid-size electric SUVs, their engineering philosophies differ slightly.

Here is how the two heavyweights compare:

SpecificationMercedes-Benz GLC EV (GLC400 4Matic)BMW iX3
PowertrainDual-motor, AWDDual-motor, AWD
Maximum Output489 PS469 PS / 645 Nm
0-100 km/h4.3 seconds4.9 seconds
Battery Capacity94 kWh108.7 kWh (nett)
Max Range (WLTP)Up to 713 kmUp to 805 km
DC Fast ChargingUp to 330 kW (800V architecture)Not explicitly detailed in base specs, but supports high-speed DC

Key takeaway: The choice between the two may come down to your driving priorities. The Mercedes-Benz GLC is noticeably quicker off the line, hitting a century in 4.3 seconds. However, the BMW iX3 counters with a significantly larger battery pack, granting it the crown for ultimate range anxiety relief at 805 km.

A Cabin Built for the Digital Age

Mercedes-Benz has always prioritized interior luxury, and the GLC EV takes this into the digital stratosphere.

Buyers can specify the sweeping MBUX Hyperscreen, a massive 39.1-inch glass panel that spans the entire width of the dashboard. This setup includes a dedicated front passenger display that can even act as a digital picture frame, displaying personal photos or pre-loaded artwork.

Beyond the screens, the cabin features a Sky Control panoramic roof, vegan interior upholstery, and an active ambient lighting system that visually pulses in sync with your music. Practicality hasn’t been sacrificed for style; the rear boot offers 570 liters of cargo space (expandable to 1,740 liters with seats folded down), plus an additional 128 liters in the front “frunk.”

To enhance driving dynamics and comfort, global models offer Airmatic air suspension and a rear-axle steering system that can turn the rear wheels by up to 4.5 degrees, making this mid-size SUV surprisingly nimble in tight city parking.

As we await the official launch date, one thing is certain: affluent Malaysian EV buyers are about to have a very tough, yet exciting, decision to make.
