The Bugatti Destrier: A Rolling Sculpture Built on a Track Beast

Bugatti has officially revealed the Destrier, the third one-of-one bespoke creation to emerge from its highly exclusive Programme Solitaire custom division.Named after a prized warhorse favored by medieval knights, the Destrier is an extraordinary departure from Bugatti’s recent track-focused endeavors.

The Concept: Stripping Away the Aero

The fundamental concept behind the Destrier asks a radical question: What happens if you take the most extreme track car Bugatti has ever built, and strip away every aerodynamic appendage?

The Destrier is built upon the same extreme, ultra-stiff carbon fiber monocoque chassis as the track-only Bugatti Bolide. However, where the Bolide is defined by massive wings, aggressive vents, and a relentless pursuit of downforce to demolish lap times, the Destrier goes in the exact opposite direction.Bugatti’s designers have completely removed the Bolide’s aero package to focus purely on elegant, sculptural proportions.

Design and Dimensions

Because it utilizes the Bolide’s extreme packaging, the Destrier crouches incredibly low to the ground.

  • Height:The car stands a mere one meter (39.4 inches) tall, making it the lowest-slung Bugatti model ever created.
  • Wheels: To accentuate its dramatic proportions, it rides on massive wheels—20-inch items at the front and 21-inch at the rear. These are significantly larger than the 18-inch wheels used on the Bolide.
  • Stance: According to Bugatti’s Director of Design, Frank Heyl, freeing the chassis from aerodynamic constraints allowed the designers to create an “extreme body posture normally reserved for dramatic initial design sketches”.
  • Paint:The one-off model is finished in a bespoke, multi-layered “Sapphire Celeste” blue paint containing a diamond-inspired sparkle.

The W16 Powertrain Remains

Despite its shift toward high-end luxury and haute couture craftsmanship, the Destrier retains the Bolide’s brutal heart. It is powered by the same 1,600 PS (1,578 hp) quad-turbo W16 engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.Interestingly, Bugatti notes that the engine bay features brightwork with a hammered surface finish—a subtle nod to the hand-beaten armor worn by medieval knights.

A Tailor’s Atelier Inside

While the Bolide features a stripped-out, motorsport-focused cabin, the Destrier’s interior is designed to resemble the quiet warmth of a high-end tailor’s atelier. The bespoke cabin is wrapped in a warm brown “Ambre Voyageur” leather and nubuck, paired with a seamless 3D-knitted textile threaded with fine copper yarns.

The Bugatti Destrier is set to make its official public debut during Monterey Car Week, culminating with an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16, 2026.
