Money Can’t Buy You a New Ferrari (Until 2028, At Least)

If you have recently struck the lottery and are rushing out to buy a brand-new Ferrari directly from Maranello, you might want to put your chequebook away. The Italian supercar maker is officially completely sold out through the entirety of 2027.

If you place a fresh order today, the absolute earliest you will receive your Prancing Horse is in 2028.

During the company’s Q2 2026 earnings release, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna officially confirmed the situation, stating that the current order book “entirely covers 2027”. Every single production slot for next year has already been spoken for across the brand’s entire global lineup.

Lower Volume, Massive Profits

Interestingly, Ferrari’s fully booked status comes during a period where they are actually shipping slightly fewer cars.

  • First Half 2026: Ferrari delivered 6,802 vehicles globally in the first half of the year. This represents a slight drop of 285 units compared to the same period last year.
  • Q2 Deliveries: Looking specifically at the second quarter of 2026, deliveries decreased by 3.7 percent to 3,366 cars.

Despite this deliberate drop in volume—which Ferrari attributes to an ongoing transition between model phases—the company is making more money than ever.

Operating profit for Q2 2026 jumped to €605 million, reflecting a significant increase year-over-year. Instead of relying on sheer volume, Ferrari’s profit margins are expanding thanks to highly lucrative personalizations. Wealthy buyers are layering their custom vehicle orders with expensive bespoke options, driving up the final price tags of the cars significantly.

What Are People Buying?

Ferrari cites “healthy demand across all geographies,” but Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) remain the undisputed stronghold, accounting for over half of all deliveries.

In terms of powertrains, the purists are still dictating the market:

  • Internal Combustion Dominates: Traditional combustion engine models accounted for 70 percent of all sales in the first half of the year.
  • Electrification Grows: Hybrid and electric vehicles made up the remaining 30 percent.

The lineup is currently undergoing a massive evolution. Older models like the 296 GTS, Roma Spider, and SF90 XX series are gradually being phased out. In their place, Ferrari is bringing in fresh metal like the Amalfi, the 849 Testarossa, and the highly anticipated 12Cilindri Manuale.

Even Ferrari’s controversial new fully electric sports car, the Luce, has seen massive commercial success, hitting its sales targets almost immediately despite early internet backlash over its design.

According to Vigna, Ferrari currently boasts “the most complete lineup in history”. For the ultra-wealthy, the waiting game is simply the new price of exclusivity.
