Injuries Found After Post-Mortem Examination
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 12 — Lawyers representing the family of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir have confirmed that the post-mortem examination, conducted after the exhumation of her remains, revealed signs of injury. Counsels Shahlan Jufri and Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi disclosed that the autopsy, which lasted approximately eight hours, identified unspecified injuries but refrained from elaborating until the hospital issues the official medical report.
Legal Team to Wait for Official Report
“To avoid discrepancies between the verbal findings conveyed to us and Zara’s mother after the post-mortem, and the official report that will be issued by the hospital, we will withhold further comment for now,” they stated. The lawyers expressed their appreciation to the Attorney General’s Chambers for prompting the police to seek a court order that permitted the exhumation and subsequent autopsy, which took place at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on August 10.
Background of the Case

Zara’s unexpected death, originally attributed to a fall from her school dormitory building, has sparked intense public scrutiny and widespread calls for justice. The absence of an initial autopsy and the perceived lack of transparency from authorities, coupled with rumors of bullying and potential interference by influential individuals, fueled national outrage.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have not yet verified whether the injuries uncovered are related to foul play. Police continue to probe possible bullying involvement as part of the inquiry.
Suspects
While the police have investigated, including questioning around 60 witnesses, and looked into three students nicknamed “Kak Wana,” “Kak Dedeng,” and “Tomboi” as part of the inquiry, no official names or details have been disclosed to the public .
