A New Era for Honda in Malaysia

Honda Malaysia has launched its first fully electric vehicle, the e:N1, marking the brand’s serious step into the country’s EV scene. Priced at RM149,900 (on-the-road without insurance), the e:N1 enters the market as a stylish electric SUV that blends familiar HR-V design cues with cutting-edge EV architecture. It’s built on the dedicated e:N Architecture F platform, which is exclusive to Honda’s electric lineup.

Performance and Driving Range

Powering the e:N1 is a front-mounted electric motor producing 204 PS (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque. This enables the EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 7.7 seconds, with a top speed capped at 160 km/h. Honda claims a 500 km driving range on the NEDC cycle, though WLTP estimates are closer to 412 km and real-world results average around 380 km—solid numbers for urban and mixed-use driving.

Charging Technology and Convenience
The e:N1 supports 11 kW AC charging for home or workplace use and fast DC charging up to 78 kW. With the latter, it can go from 0 to 80% in about 45–50 minutes. This strikes a good balance between practicality and performance for Malaysian EV users.

Interior Design and User Interface

Inside, the e:N1 offers a clean and modern cabin layout with a flat floor that improves legroom and flexibility. The dashboard is dominated by a 15.1-inch vertically oriented touchscreen, complemented by a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Honda’s software interface is praised for its clarity and layered design, separating navigation, entertainment, climate, and settings into intuitive zones for ease of use.

Driving Experience and Ride Quality
Despite weighing over 1.6 tonnes—roughly 270 kg heavier than a hybrid HR-V—the e:N1 handles well. It offers composed ride quality, responsive steering, and stable cornering. Reviewers have noted that the e:N1 does not feel like a converted petrol car, but rather like a purpose-built EV with refined engineering.

Advanced Safety Features
The e:N1 is the first Honda in Malaysia equipped with Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. It also includes the full Honda Sensing suite, featuring Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, and more, bringing peace of mind to drivers and passengers alike.

Market Response and Availability

The response to the e:N1 has been encouraging, with over 200 bookings even before its official launch. Deliveries are expected to begin in mid-June 2025, with limited initial units suggesting strong demand. Honda’s wide dealership network and after-sales service are likely to add to the appeal.

Warranty and Long-Term Ownership
Buyers will benefit from a 3-year/100,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km warranty for the EV battery and drivetrain components. This extensive coverage reinforces Honda’s commitment to long-term reliability and customer assurance.

Positioning in the Malaysian EV Market
Although slightly more expensive than some Chinese EVs, the e:N1 is competitively priced against high-spec hybrids like the HR-V e:HEV RS. It offers full EV advantages, including quiet operation, instant torque, and reduced running costs, while benefiting from Honda’s brand trust and technological refinement.

Final Thoughts
The Honda e:N1 is a thoughtfully designed EV that meets the needs of urban Malaysian drivers ready to embrace electrification. It combines comfort, innovation, practicality, and performance in a single package—without alienating those familiar with Honda’s petrol-powered SUVs. This launch not only expands Honda Malaysia’s product portfolio but also helps normalize EV ownership in a growing and increasingly competitive segment.
