Chery Puts Safety to the Test in Indonesia’s Tropical Climate

Chery Launches Indonesian Phase of Safety Challenge
Chery has officially launched the Indonesian leg of its global Safety Challenge, placing the spotlight on battery performance and safety under the country’s extreme tropical and humid climate. This marks the second phase of the international campaign, designed to showcase the durability and dependability of Chery’s advanced vehicle safety technologies in real-world, high-stress conditions.

From China’s Extreme Tests to Indonesia’s Humidity

Building on the success of the Safety Challenge in China, where Chery subjected its vehicles to extreme tests such as spiral rollovers, dual-vehicle collisions, and a dramatic seven-vehicle vertical stack, the company now sets its sights on Southeast Asia. The highlight of this phase is the TIGGO 8 PRO CSH, Chery’s flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, which will be tested rigorously in Indonesia’s rain-heavy and humidity-challenged terrain. The same model had previously proven its resilience by withstanding a 48-hour seven-car stack test in Wuhu, China, setting a precedent for its structural robustness and battery safety.

Testing in Tropical Conditions for Local Relevance

Indonesia presents a unique challenge due to its consistently high humidity levels and frequent flooding, conditions that are often a major concern for electric and hybrid vehicle owners. Chery aims to dispel these fears by demonstrating the effectiveness of its battery safety systems under such environmental pressures. This move not only illustrates the brand’s commitment to global safety but also aligns with its ‘In Somewhere, For Somewhere’ strategy, emphasizing localized product adaptation and performance validation.

Future Global Expansion of Safety Campaign

This Indonesian campaign is just one chapter in a broader journey. Chery plans to extend the Safety Challenge to several other regions with distinct environmental factors—including South Africa, Brazil, and Mexico. Each country will provide unique testing grounds for Chery to showcase its vehicles’ adaptability and safety benchmarks, reinforcing its ambition to lead in hybrid vehicle reliability across diverse markets.

Chery’s Global Footprint and Leadership
As part its long-term vision, Chery continues to refine its technology and expand its global presence. Chery Malaysia, a subsidiary of Chery Group, plays a vital role in this effort. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Wuhu, China, Chery has emerged as a prominent player in the global automotive industry. With a portfolio that includes passenger cars, SUVs, and electric vehicles, the company now exports to over 80 countries and has maintained its position as China’s top vehicle exporter for 22 consecutive years.
