At the 105th Annual General Meeting of BMW AG on May 14, 2025, Chairman Oliver Zipse addressed shareholders at Munich’s Olympiahalle, emphasizing the company’s resilience and forward-looking strategy amid a rapidly evolving automotive landscape. Zipse highlighted BMW’s commitment to innovation, particularly through the introduction of the NEUE KLASSE platform, which represents a significant leap in electrification and digitalization.
New Vehicle Models and Global Expansion
He unveiled the first two production models: a sporty sedan reminiscent of the BMW 3 Series and the BMW iX3, both integral to BMW’s future lineup. The iX3 is set to be produced at BMW’s new plant in Hungary, underscoring the company’s global expansion efforts and commitment to sustainable production.
Technological Breakthroughs: “Heart of Joy”

The chairman also introduced the “Heart of Joy,” a high-performance computing unit that integrates all drivetrain and driving dynamics functions. This technology was showcased in the BMW Vision Driving Experience (VDX) at the Auto Shanghai event, demonstrating BMW’s advancements in vehicle dynamics and control systems.
Robust Financial Investments
Financially, BMW has made substantial investments in electrification, digitalization, and production, with R&D expenditures exceeding nine billion euros by 2024. Zipse assured shareholders that these investments are strategic moves aimed at securing long-term growth and profitability, maintaining BMW’s leadership in innovation and premium mobility.
Leadership Transition: Tribute to Dr. Norbert Reithofer
The meeting also marked the end of an era with Dr. Norbert Reithofer stepping down after 38 years at BMW, including a decade as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. He was lauded as a “major architect of today’s success,” having led the company through significant milestones, including the launch of the BMW i brand and the implementation of Strategy “Number ONE.”
