Royal Malaysia Police to Evaluate Nissan Kicks e-Power in Two-Month Trial

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 August 2026 — Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) has provided two units of the Nissan Kicks e-Power to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for a two-month Proof of Concept (PoC) evaluation programme without purchasing obligation. The vehicles will undergo field testing during active patrol operations to evaluate their performance, fuel efficiency, and operational suitability for law enforcement duties.

Vehicle Configuration and Powertrain Details

The evaluation aims to gather operational data on the vehicle’s capability across standard police duty cycles.

The Nissan Kicks e-Power relies on a series-hybrid powertrain layout:

  • Drive Mechanism: Wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor.
  • Power Generation: A petrol engine functions solely as a generator to supply electrical power to the vehicle’s battery, eliminating the requirement for external charging infrastructure.

Executive Commentary

  • Commissioner of Police Redzuan Bin Abd Hamid, Director of the Logistics and Technology Department at Bukit Aman, noted that real-world operational testing will help PDRM evaluate new mobility technologies and inform future fleet planning.
  • Christopher Tan, Executive Vice President of Edaran Tan Chong Motor, stated that the programme serves to test the series-hybrid system in public service fleet applications.
