From Proton to GWM: Roslan Abdullah’s Strategic New Role

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has officially appointed automotive veteran Roslan Abdullah as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), a move that signals the brand’s intensified focus on expanding its footprint in Malaysia. With an extensive track record in the local automotive sector, Roslan’s entry marks a pivotal moment in GWM’s mission to strengthen brand presence and elevate customer experience.

An Industry Veteran Leading the Charge

Roslan Abdullah brings over three decades of experience in Malaysia’s automotive industry. His tenure includes leadership roles at Proton and Perodua, where he played a critical part in shaping both companies’ domestic strategies. At Proton, he served as Deputy CEO of Proton Holdings and CEO of Proton Edar, helping the company navigate competitive challenges. His strategic mindset and operational excellence are expected to bring similar success to GWM Malaysia.

Strengthening GWM’s Market Position

The appointment of Roslan aligns with GWM’s long-term goal to become a top contender in Malaysia’s growing automotive sector. GWM has steadily introduced a lineup of innovative models under its various brands, such as Haval, Ora, and Tank, offering electrified and smart mobility options to Malaysian consumers. Roslan’s leadership is expected to accelerate this momentum and further integrate GWM into the local ecosystem.

Enhancing Customer Experience and Local Partnerships

Beyond growing the brand, Roslan is also expected to deepen local engagement through better customer service, local partnerships, and strategic dealer network expansion. His deep understanding of Malaysian consumer behavior and dealer operations will be instrumental in refining GWM’s outreach and strengthening after-sales support.

A Vision for Sustainable and Smart Mobility

With Malaysia pushing forward in the EV and smart mobility landscape, GWM sees this as a timely opportunity to reinforce its position. Roslan’s appointment also signifies the brand’s commitment to supporting national automotive goals, including sustainability and technology integration. GWM aims to be more than just a carmaker—it wants to be a future-forward mobility partner in Malaysia.

Looking Ahead

As GWM Malaysia gears up for its next phase of growth, Roslan Abdullah’s leadership will be key in navigating market complexities while positioning the brand as a serious contender in Malaysia. His vast experience, combined with GWM’s innovative portfolio, sets the stage for exciting developments in the Malaysian automotive scene.
