2027 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Updated in Japan – 457 PS 3.5L V6 Hybrid Debuts, Lineup Streamlined, Priced from 6.30 Million Yen

Toyota Motor Corporation has officially introduced an extensive mid-lifecycle update for the flagship Land Cruiser 300 Series in Japan, debuting the first-ever hybrid powertrain in the domestic model’s history, discontinuing the conventional non-hybrid petrol engine, and streamlining the domestic catalogue ahead of an official market release on 1 October 2026.

  • Toyota launches the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid in Japan, pairing a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor to generate 457 PS and 790 Nm of torque across a standard seven-seat layout.
  • Pure petrol variants have been completely discontinued in the Japanese domestic market, streamlining the grade structure to five variants across GX, ZX, and GR Sport trims.
  • Prices span from 6,300,800 yen (approx. RM185,000) for the revised off-road-focused GX diesel up to 10,200,300 yen (approx. RM300,000) for the flagship GR Sport Hybrid.

The revision marks a major mechanical transition for Toyota’s flagship 4WD. The outgoing pure petrol 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 has been removed from the Japanese domestic roster, replaced by a parallel hybrid system offered exclusively on the upper-tier ZX and GR Sport grades. The existing 3.3-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel continues as the sole non-electrified combustion option. Simultaneously, Toyota has rationalised the catalogue by dropping the intermediate AX and VX specifications, concentrating the range into five tailored offerings.

3.5-Litre Twin-Turbo V6 Hybrid Powertrain

The headline mechanical addition is the parallel hybrid powertrain. It pairs a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine rated at 408 PS and 650 Nm with an electric motor developing 54 PS and 290 Nm, integrated between the internal combustion unit and the 10-speed automatic transmission. The combined system outputs reach 457 PS and 790 Nm (80.6 kgf·m) of torque, achieving a domestic WLTC fuel consumption rating of 9.4 km/L.

The hybrid configuration introduces an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system calibrated for low-speed steering agility and high-speed stability on pavement and rough terrain alike. Additionally, hybrid variants incorporate dual AC100V 1,500W emergency power supply sockets located at the rear of the center console and within the luggage compartment. Cargo versatility is supported by standard 50:50 power-folding third-row seats with electric recline and integrated centre armrest trays, along with a multi-position flexible deck board system.

Repositioned GX Grade: Dedicated Utility and Off-Road Capability

Toyota has repositioned the entry-level GX trim from a base fleet specification into an authentic, heavy-duty off-road utility vehicle:

  • Traction & Drivetrain: Standard factory-fitted front and rear electronic differential locks, paired with full-time four-wheel drive and Multi-Terrain Select.
  • Chassis & Wheels: 18-inch silver-painted cast alloy wheels wrapped in 265/65R18 all-terrain tyres, supported by heavy-duty aluminium side steps.
  • Exterior & Interior Appointments: A black radiator grille with subtle chrome accents, black exterior mirror caps, and halogen lighting surrounds. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in hard-wearing water-resistant fabric with manual 6-way driver and 4-way front passenger seats, with washable resin floor coverings available as a factory option.

Standard Equipment Upgrades Across the Range

The update raises the baseline specification for both safety and convenience across all grades:

  • Driver Vision & Recording: Factory integrated front and rear drive recorders (dashcams) and a digital inner rear-view mirror with full display mode are now fitted as standard across ZX and GR Sport grades.
  • In-Cabin Electronics: Qi wireless smartphone charging (“Okudake Jūden”), ITS Connect vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, cold weather operational prep, and an integrated ETC 2.0 transponder are standard equipment nationwide.
  • High-End Infotainment: The 14-speaker, 12-channel JBL Premium Sound System and dual-screen rear-seat entertainment displays—previously high-cost standalone options—are now standard inclusions on the ZX and GR Sport variants.
  • Aesthetics & Finishes: The ZX Hybrid is distinguished by unique front and rear aero bumpers featuring dark chrome garnishes. Two new exterior paint shades join the global palette: Neutral Black (Code 229) and Platinum White Pearl Mica (Code 089).

Vehicle deliveries in Japan are scheduled to commence on 1 October 2026, with orders also accepted via the brand’s KINTO vehicle subscription service.
