JPJ Issues 14-Day Settlement Ultimatum to 945 Commercial Operators Over RM12.18 Million in 40,595 Unpaid Summonses

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has served a 14-day compliance ultimatum to 945 commercial transport companies carrying more than 20 unsettled traffic violations each, mandating the settlement of 40,595 delinquent summonses valued at RM12.18 million by 24 September 2026 or face immediate regulatory enforcement.

  • JPJ establishes a 14-day deadline ending 24 September 2026 for 945 transport operators to clear 40,595 outstanding traffic summonses.
  • The unsettled fines, accumulated between 2023 and 2026, total RM12.18 million across 940 freight logistics companies and five passenger bus operators.
  • Penalties for failure to comply include commercial operating permit suspensions coordinated via APAD and the immediate impoundment of vehicles operating on public roads.

Announced by JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli during an Ops Tegar operational briefing at the Perak JPJ Headquarters in Ipoh, the enforcement drive targets repeat commercial offenders that have failed to respond to ongoing statutory notifications and reminders issued since 2023.

Under the enforcement framework, JPJ will liaise directly with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to suspend the operating licences and business permits of companies that fail to settle their balances within the 14-day window.Furthermore, state JPJ enforcement divisions have been directed to intercept and impound any commercial vehicles belonging to suspended operators detected on public road networks, with vehicles held in custody until all outstanding compound obligations are satisfied.

The department clarified that fleet owners and corporate operators cannot shift regulatory liability entirely onto individual drivers.Transport companies remain legally bound to ensure that the vehicles under their administration, as well as the drivers in their employment, maintain full compliance with active road transport legislation.

Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli noted that while administrative leniency and prior settlement reminders had been extended over multiple cycles, the persistence of delinquent accounts among chronic offenders (pesalah tegar) has necessitated targeted, zero-compromise enforcement under Ops Tegar to enforce fiscal compliance and maintain commercial vehicle safety standards.
